I'm diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, although I don't think I've met any other people on Black Hat World who are diagnosed with it, so I doubt the rate on here is as high as 1 out of every 2 members.

Now that I think about it, you should have made this a poll. I would have been curious to see how many other people have ASD on here.

I should of made a poll i just didnt think to

But yes i am on the Spectrum to HFA and proud.

how about william shockley? he is believed to have been a high-functioning autistic...

does autism or any other diagnosis makes us different? we are here for marketing and nothing else matters, either how we look, think or where we live. peace

Yes iPinner i believe it does

We have better Memory and Pattern Recognition Skills then normal humans.

Making it easier to be Black Hatters

Also there is a Study somewhere "Autism and Illegal Activity" Drug Dealing Etc

Basing it on we have less morals therefore more likly to do the wrong thing. :P

It is said 1-55 Have a form of Autism. Meaning that thru out history we have proven to be a Success genetic Variant.

Our Autistic abilities on the High Functioning Spectrum would of Allowed us to (Have better hunting and gathering skills, less emotion, less Fear, ADHA to help us catch prey)

Meaning we got to spread our babies (it all makes logical sense)

I think I understand what iPinner meant. Here on Black Hat World, we can have any disorder, any skin colour, or live anywhere; but it ultimately doesn't matter since this entire community full of diverse individuals from countless different backgrounds are united by our one interest in Internet marketing.

Yeah, sure, many of us with autism have great memory and pattern recognition skills as an advantage, but if you're anything like me then you probably have piss-poor social skills (which can be important for forming genuine long-term business relationships) that were never properly developed as a disadvantage, and social skills are something that the "neurotypical" members here may have us beat in.

Having autism isn't necessarily a negative, a lot of professionals can have it and still function. I will say that saying having better "memory and pattern recognition" skills than "normal" people is a bit far fetched. in general scientists believe that autism is similar to adult on-sense amnesia. It's not horrible or life threatening but at the same time it doesn't make anyone superior in memory.

I would also read more scientific journals if you want more info. Most of the internet is garbage for real scientific knowledge. Try google scholar.

This is just coming from my training as a cellular, molecular, and developmental biologist in Canada. I focus my research mostly on medical science.

Have a nice day and all the best,

GentlemanX

There will always be + and - everywhere. I still don't get why you're trying to compare these things because I could mention plenty of negative ones too.
I believe you should better stick to your business plan and make a huge profitable business which will prove how good business man you are, not your diagnosis. :)

People shouldn't flatter themselves. They're in the same boat as the "Richard Branson dropped out of school, SO DID I" people.

This is exactly what I was waiting for.
From what I've seen, some consider themselves like they're some kind of superior specie.
Why do we always have to sepparate ourselves in categories?

Reminds me of the people who work their asses off in school for four entire years, only to be met with a minimum wage job when they get out.

My brother went to school to be a sports journalist, now he works at Wal-Mart (I've tried to get him in on the entire "digital marketing" ordeal, he just isn't having it at all).

To each his own, just because you have autism doesn't mean you'll be as smart (or even come close to having the same amount of impact) as Albert Einstein did/was. More power to you guys though, I've seen a lot of autism documentaries focusing on their "special abilities" and it's pretty neat.

Albert Einsteing had eyes, so do I!
Albert Einsteind had hair, so do I!
I can go on with a trillion things but I think is irrelevant... I don't want to be rude but I think we should discuss ideas and tricks how to do or how we should't do instead of thinking that we have a disorder we can be better.
Best of luck,

Those success people have critical thinking and CREATIVITY.

Mr. by the book wont get you anywhere. Except for 8 hours a day job. :)

Albert Einstein was a smart guy that may have happened to have autism, not an autistic guy that was smart because of it.

You bring up a good point. People in every community like to only highlight their community members who "excel in life" and ignore the the ones who failed miserably, the ones they have to share a trait with (although I've seen communities try to abandon their own kind and claim no relation to them whenever they do something wrong). That's why you won't see anyone post this on any autism awareness page:

I don't have autism, but I know several in my family that do. One kid is so severe with it that he'll just sit there and talk about World of Tanks and Pokemon for hours, and hours, and hours, even after you've fallen asleep or make it clear through body language you're trying to do something else he'll continue to talk. He's a good enough kid, but he can't really ever function on his own without someone to help him sadly.

My youngest brother has a mild form of autism/aspergers, and it doesn't really affect him all that much aside from missing out on social cues sometimes that make him almost seem like a jerk when he doesn't pick up on it.

I guess really whether you have it or not doesn't really matter, since in the end you do what you can with the skills you have and develop that ultimately make you a success.
