I looked at my stats for the last week today and noticed that my search traffic has jumped up around 500% in the last few days. This of course is very nice indeed, but I haven't done any extra SEO work on the site (although lately I have been getting some natural backlink juice from high PR sites in the same niche as my own).

I'm no SEO expert, but could this increase be due to the backlinks, or has there been some sort of G update lately? I've checked my PR and it hasn't changed at all.

forget about PR dude.. Google hasn't been updating it for some time now.. if other Legit sites are linking back to you, that's the best SEO there is.. so deff increase is because of that.
or negative SEO lol
 
Its from Google updates.Some people sites got hit and others had fluctuations in rankings.

i too got a good boost in one of my site last week for 3 days, around 100% more traffic but after that it came back to normal.Seems like google is twisting the positions a bit

I was inclined to think it was the backlinks. Strange thing is, there are Amazon links all over my site. I though G hated those.

I had a sudden spike for a site and when I looked it was a political scandal that somehow I ranked for (unintentionally). The scandal broke and there I was with an unrelated post on position #1. Sometimes it just happens.

Better yet if it's a long time trend.
 
Your site seems to be doing well while others are falling at the moment. Praise the lord lol
 
What's the best free analyser tool to see what I'm actually ranking for?

Seems indeed Google is launching some sort of update which may or may not have negative impact for some but positive for others.
 
I have seen positive rankings in the past 24 hours. A lot of it is from rankings lost on Sept 29th though.
