I just bought a WP theme and now having issues, any insight?

mods, please move this post if this isn't the correct forum.

So I bought this WP theme almost a week ago now from Envato but the purchase code doesn't work when I try to unlock the demos and plugins. I get this error: "There is a problem contacting the 'Theme Author' server. Please disable any firewall service or authentication servers, check if your host is not blocking connections to external domains and make sure to whitelist 'theme site.com'"

i contact my hosting, they did some checking and told me the issue is coming from the theme author so I sent them a support ticket.

After a few days of going back and forth, the theme support responded with asking for my WP admin login details (which I gave them). They activated the theme today with some temporary purchase code so that I can use the demos. So it does work now, but to find out why my code is not processed correctly they need to use some debug tools. They are asking for my real purchase code and FTP account access so they can debug. Does this sound right? Why would the temp codes work and not the one i paid for? and is it safe to now give them my FTP account access??

Well, you can create a FTP account for them to fix the issue. You can check the log files later and after it`s done just delete it.

Is it a new website? If not take a backup in case something goes wrong. Keep us posted with whatever issues you get and maybe we can help.
Btw, what theme did you buy? If this thing doesn`t get fixed maybe someone can suggest you a similar theme.
