I have this idea that I want to run past the BHW community. I have a site that could make money for people. I feel that the early adopters of my site should be college students and stay at home moms. I want to start with college students first and put an offer of $1.00 to $5.00 to sign up and try my site with feedback. I would get my testers by approaching some student organization and suggest my site testing as a fund raiser for their group. However, the stipulation being that they must sign up with a college email address. I would then contact them via the college email address to validate them and then give them the money via paypal. (I know this is a high cost for a conversion but read further.)

My other thought was to just meet the participating students on campus with a sponsored display table and validate them at that time and give them money. This would peak other students interest and give me some extra pub. My thought process behind going the college student route was to get word of mouth in the college arena to build up my site. Now what I need is someone to tell me the fatal flaw with this ideal? Where could they get over on me? Brutal and honest feedback is welcomed so if your secrete talent is flaming people on boards or ethuggin here is your chance to shine. Yeahhhh early morning humor but seriously I need feedback. The danger is that a lot of students may just take the instant money and forget about your site. Having their e-mail address will definitely encourage some to come back but many students just want a quick buck ;)

Yeah them taking the money and not coming back is an occupational hazard that comes with the game but the allure with my site is you can make money from your abilities. Plus I will have their email address to send them updates and news letters. If they are looking for a quick buck then my site would hit a sweet spot. In a nut shell the reason why I am targeting them first.

So your site is about a way for people to make money for students and stay at home moms, and you're going to pay testers to review it; to let you know what the products strong points and weaknesses are?

It's a fine idea, and will only help your future conversions. I think that is a good way you're going about it but you might aswell just offer your product itself as the price for them to test it. I don't think paying them 5 dollars is really going to make a difference.

And if you're just offering them into the early stages of the program at the cost of their honest testimonials and feedback, I think that is a good enough payment. It will also make people feel a bit important since they'll be the first to test this new thing. So in my opinion you shouldn't offer to pay them at all, you should hype the product up and let them know you're doing them a favor by letting them have the product for free at the cost of them telling you how they felt about it.

Very good points. The wheels are turning in my head.

try this idea then tell us results.
your idea may be good it depends on implementation.

way too much work-

what is your expected roi?

Could you just make a few craigslist ads?

Are you trying to convert a click bank offer-

Give it a shot- or just find a local rock band. Tell them that you are going to make them a free video- then try your onsite college idea and charge stupid students $5 dollars to be in the next Music video from that band. Might be funner.
