Lets say I have a website with user-generated content, adding on about 1gb of data per day, and around lets say 1,000,000 unique visitors per month, so 33,000 unique visitors per day........ what hosting would I need for that?

Would just a dedicated server be enough??

Ive been hearing of Amazon Web Services or DnsMadeEasy but have no clue what they are and how they work and how much they cost.

Can anyone who knows about what hosting I would need explain???

In my opinion the best thing to do is look in the marketplace for different hosting companies right
here on BHW. Contact their support and they should be able to recommend a plan that fits your needs.

A dedi with 32 GB and good processor should be sufficient but will suggest you to employ cloudflare least you get DDOS.

there are more factors, like the type of script that is running the website, the number of visitors that are visiting the site at the same moment. You can buy 3-4 not so powerful(cheap) servers and do load balancing...

95% php mostly. using around ~40mb of ram..

I'd still like to know if AWS or DNSmadeeasy is the answer

Yes, they can be an answer to your solution but in my opinion will not be the cheapest solution.

Based on your requirement's you also must look for a ddos protection, reverse proxy and load balance.

And second I will also start discussing this with some hosting providers to see what they can offer to you, Any good provider will come up with a custom offer.

I think the real question everybody are wondering here is are you monetizing those daily visits? :)

On topic, depending on the configuration i think that a dedi can handle a lot more than that. And your best option is to find a good hosting company and talk to their support as suggested above. They can tell you the best option for your website but sometimes they try to oversell so you should probably double check their offer and collect more offers from different hosting company`s so you can compare them.

Cheers..

An i7 vps with enough memory can handle all that, even a i5 can do it. But is better to opt for a dedi from the start like other members are suggesting, this way you will avoid the mess of migrating in the future.

Try to go with a company that was around for some years and has great reputation and that are serious about technical support. Ideally with their own data center.

php is not the problem, the type of CMS is. for ex. a custom CMS is not same as WP.

Hi,

You need to consider following things for a hosting service prior to buy:

  • Unlimited disk space
  • Unlimited bandwidth
  • Flexible, easy-to-use control panel
  • Guaranteed 99.9% uptime
  • 24/7 support

Regards

I saw many cases in witch this kind of website can be hosted on a 1-2 well configured VPS if they are optimized.
I'm not saying that a dedi can't do the job but it will be more expensive.
