Hi,
I have some questions regarding backlinks. I have a website which is 5 months old and has alexa rankings. I am trying to build backlinks for it. I got a list of Do-follow blogs. I commented on them with my domain name at the website column in the comment section. Most of them approved my comments. But when I check sites like rank signals and backlink checker to see my back link count, they say I don't have any back links.

Am I doing anything wrong?

Big G does not gives you credit for all the back-links. If you build a thousand links you would be lucky to see google to giving you credit for 20 links.

Actually I don't care about google. How can I see how much backlinks i made?
 
You can use Majestic Backlink Analyzer. This is an addon of firefox. It's very effective to track your backlinks.
 
Yes majestic is the best tool to check your backlinks.
 
I also use Google Webmaster Tools to see the domains that links to mine. It shows 100's more domains that the classic link:sitenameurl command in google search. But even so, i do not bet that ALL links are tracked. My advice: focus on getting more quality links. The rule of thumb is - if it's easy to get the link, the quality is marginal because also everybodyelse can get it.
 
You need to start getting back links by emailing your content to popular blogs in your niche. If they choose to post your article on their site, or use your article as a reference for one of theirs, this counts as a quality back link and holds more weight than the method that you're using.

A number of tool's available in the web which help's you to monitor your backlink's in a convinent way.. You can also check your indexed backlink's in your website's google webmaster tool in the "Linked to your website" section.

If you don't mind me saying - what's the point of backlinks then, if you don't care about google?

friend actually your problem is not a big issue in this field it is a general problem which is almost occur. You should have to work on your website like make better back links with relevancy to other sites and promote it on social sites. Please make sure that you have no spam in your content and web page. And your site i new so it is also a cause of it after some time you may be get good rank.
