So, I have reached page two for a nice fat keyword and would like some advice as to what it will take to get it to page one.

I just added Google plus so this MIGHT help, it will definitely be a good test. I should have 200+ by next week.

Give me some suggestions for SEO to see if im not forgetting something stupidly obvious.

It is a wordpress site and it has a few plugins already.

Sorry but I will not tell you what my keyword is.

It is in the medical industry though.

When I reach page one I will def cash in on it and I will update this thread with my success!

congrats mate! From page 2 to #1 can be long but I hope you will be there soon.
 
some basic stuff, you should follow:
1) make sure to write a unique description for every single category and tag you are using on your site
2) make sure to use meta tags for the posts, pages you are using

also, there a website called attracta...i'm using that for months now and it gives you detailed stats of what you are missing of your site! follow their suggestions, and you'll be on the first page in no time!

ps. this is what I do, and it works for me so far!

What did you do to get on page 2 ? Was it only blackhat, forum profiles, scrapebox blasts ?

You might be missing some authority backlinks

You won't believe it but, original content. Only two keywords were targeted for the entire site, some seo plug ins etc

Keyword in title, backlinks. meta tags, on page seo, keyword placement within all articles on site

gratz trushafty!! try getting some high pr backlinks. I was on page 2 with one of my sites and then got linked to from a high pr article. I went straight to pos 9. article was pr 8 though.

Write 20 new and unique articles and post one every day. Build some edu and gon links and blast them with sb and xrumer and create some web2.0 properties as well. Just keep on working on your backlinks.
 
Im #14 for a 3M KW and #28 for a 3.6M KW. Not seeing any traffic yet though. Lazy 1st page surfers I guess.
 
You definitely want to diversify your link profile. Use social bookmarking, articles, blog comments, profiles links ect..
