I have .INFO - can I move it to .COM?

I have a one-month old .INFO site that is ranking #17 & #18 on Google and as #3 & #5 in Yahoo for two different keywords. I'm not getting much traffic yet.

Some people on these forums suggest that .INFO domains are harder to rank than .COM domains.

The matching .COM domain is available.

I have control of most of my backlinks (i.e., they are in my profiles, my blogs, and my articles). I had a Xrumer blast of 2,500 links done a week ago - most still haven't been found by Yahoo!.

What do you think about:

1) Moving entire site to the .COM domain?

2) Buy the .COM and forward to the .INFO, or forward the .INFO to the .COM

Is there anything else I might be able to do with BOTH domains?

not so sure if your sources are totally correct, but if you use clean 301s, you won't have any problems moving the site to the .com. A good SEO can rank any TLD.
 
.info and .com makes no difference in ranking , just the way people see the link.
 
move the site to the .om and redirect everything from the .info to the .com.
i think its a 301 redirect.. but i`m not sure.
anyway it should redirect everithing. including link juice..
 
Yes, just have 301 redirecting all urls to the new domain urls, link juice will stay the same.

That is bull shit my friend! Google has had .info penalties for awhile now. And go with the 301 it's your best bet. In fact i just set one up earlier today for on of my sites!:)

Humm penalty for .info... I have few which are ranking...

Anyway OP just move to .com and set 301 redirect so link juice passes to new domain... very easy and soon you will have .com ranking......

the old .htaccess file is your friend in this case...

and google loves this kind of stuff and will reindex anything from your .info against the .com sweet!
 
In my experience there does seem to be a penalty for .info

they can still rank but it seems to require extra work

this is just anecdotal, no proof to back it up
 
.info - compromised domains. they are very cheap and in 05-07 they heavily used for doorways, scam and other crap

I'll be getting the .COM and using the 301 to redirect the .INFO to the .COM domain.

Just so I understand completely, the .INFO will redirect everything (including Link Juice) to the .COM and the .COM "should" end up at least where the .INFO currently is.

Would I expect the .INFO to continue to rank or will it fall down the SERPS?

If you do a redirect then you're going to be giving up the .info in favor of the dotcom. (you'll need to keep the .info domain in order to have the redirect, but it will disappear from the serp). A 301 redirect will basically cause google to point everything it finds for the .info to the .com and effectively the .info no longer exists to them.

Well you could get the .com and create another site with additional info. Make the sites complimentary to each other, but not duplicates. Design the pages and write the content with .com being used as your new main site. Then leave the .info as is with a decent position in the serp, and then use it as somewhat of a link silo for the dotcom. Having one-way links on the .info pages to the .com pages should help your seo to rank the new domain faster. The end result after you do additional seo work on the .com is that you can have both sites showing up in the serp instead of just one. When people find and click on the .com then you have them on the page you want, if they find and click on the .info first then they'll find some presell info and a link to the main .com site. Do it right and you can get some additional seo benefit from having the two domains working together.

if you use something like my .htaccess example then everything will get transferred to the .com, including link juice and as GreyWolf said the .info will fall off the SERPs.
 
I think that all TLD domain rank same.
Just I think that info domain need more time to index.
If the SEO is good they will rank good.
 
buy a .com and redirect the .info to the .com 301 redirect check pof.com and plentyoffish.com they are same site
facebook.com and thefacebook.com

As I already said in another post, I have adult related .info domain. People are saying that adult and .info sites are not liked very much by Google, but my site is just about 2 weeks old and I haven't done very much of SEO on it yet, but it ranks on 2nd page for exact search for my main keywords out of 330,000 results.
 
I think a micro niche with .info might work. Testing it now and will post results in a week.
 
This is how I see it. If you move your site onto another domain you are going to lose all the backlinks and stuff.
