Is there anyone who make decent amount of selling reare vinyl (records) on eBay? I am thinking about going to my local music store and look for rare release and selling it on eBay. What are the risk of doing it. Over the years I have tried buying alot of stuff and selling back on ebay but didn't gain any profit instead lost tons of money.

Well it's always risky. You can never guarantee what someone will pay for your items unless you do a fixed-price auction or start the price really high. I've tried selling a couple albums that were booklisted at $50, but guess what? No one wanted them. Something may be rare but if it's not sought after at that time, no one will buy it. Whenever possible you should check the completed listings on ebay and find those same titles you have, to see what other people sold em for. Then you'll at least have an idea if you will make a profit.

You could try selling the rare vinyl on Amazon. I've seen a lot of high-priced music there, particularly if the album is out of print. The stuff might sit there for awhile, but if someone wants it bad enough and can't find it anywhere else, then they'll pay. As well, I think it's free to list items on Amazon, and you only pay if an item gets sold.
Amazon is hard to sell since I have posted numerous item there and no one seem to bother buying it. On the other hand, people who open up a shop on Amazon seem to do well. With me, I am a student who is in a huge debt that need fast money. I am running out of niche and idea on eBay.

I tried selling old records on ebay years ago. Had all kinds of stuff like Elvis and Frank Sinatra etc etc, really old and what I thought to be rare stuff. Granted they were all cover-less none sold at all. I still have them but I doubt they will ever be worth anything unless the world runs out of vinyl!

Not a great idea. You may find the odd rare release in the music store every so often, even then not one that will make you loads. I doubt you will make much profit doing this idea.

They used to do okay years ago but now traffic is down on ebay across the board and especially niche stuff like this is harder to move.
From my experience, the record stores already know if something is worth money so if you are looking to score a bargain yard sales work but you could spend several weekends with nothing to show for your time.
I'd say if rare records is a hobby of yours then go for it but as a strictly money making venture, there are many better and easier ways to make a buck.

An item is only worth what someone is willing to pay on eBay.
I do alot of selling and I'm constantly dashing someone's dreams by telling them that the treasure they've been saving in their attic for years that they think will pay off their mortgage is selling for $4.99.

I guess nothing is good on eBay anymore. I am running out of idea and niche. I do not want to deal with counterfeit. I want to sell legit items on eBay that make decent money. Am really struggling financially and I don't know how much I can hold on to this weight that I am on.
