I hate school

I use to tell my parents I was going to school but would just wake up and drive to the library and do AM. After I dropped out I would sleep a few hours in the car then waited till they left and came back home to work. A couple hundred thousand later they seem happy. Helped pay for bills, buy them a new car, and was giving my mom the "hey mom how you doing" calls randomly to make them feel better.

You're not the only one dude, many young people share the same hassle.

Why are you asking total strangers what you should do with your life? You say you feel that you owe your parents and that's why you're going to school and whether going to grad school should be included in that package... shouldn't that be something YOU decide on your own after some deep thought on the subject?

I would say this though - if you are working in IM or IT at all, then there is much to learn in an advanced degree. I am finishing my Master's (MIS) soon and I am learning things that will help me in IM. Even though I am an 'Old Salt' (though I'm not as old as my avatar), I am still learning.

If you truly feel it's all about corporate greed and conforming, then you should probably look into a different school/degree program or just take take your balls back and start making your own decisions for your life. BUT, as others have said, if you're going to turn away from this path, have a good idea of which direction your heading before you make that move.

Good luck - but remember, it's YOUR life. Stop letting others tell you what you should do - your parents, this forum, anyone other than YOU.

I never made it past year 9. I was 15 when I dropped out of school. Had no money and couldn't afford it. I don't regret it though: I'm actually earning a lot more than any other person in my entire school. They found it hilarious. Now I do. Drop out if you need to, not because you want to, otherwise you may end up regretting it.

lol that sounds a bit defensive. Great job not addressing what I said...I'm guessing you weren't very effective on your Tier 3 board.

I still stick by what I said: If you look at education as a waste, you think you are an island. That is delusion.

Thinking you can do it alone without needing to work and get along with people is a derivative of greed.

If you think you are a boss without education, and that education creates "pawns", that is narcissism.

Education is the applied bank of knowledge. You go to school and write thesis to add to the collective knowledge. University is there to expand human knowledge, which has led to the device you're reading this on. How is this not evident? Go to school; it's not just for you, it's for what you will do for others.

No perception here, as I don't know the people individually, but I hope you've learned enough psychology to know that uniqueness is not as unique as you think it is. Symptoms are symptoms, but I'm sure you knew that, you just want to be contrarian and attempt to make some kind of point.

As for revolutionary whatevers: no, your idea isn't new, it's an idea built on the developments of the ideas of others, that were developed via education in or outside of a school institution. You are not an intellectual island. Seriously, look up the definition of education and learning. Bill Gates and Steve Whoever stole from Xerox. "Nothing is new under the sun." Your dreams are shared by others and were passed down to you, and you should know this being in a fraternity. How...How is this not clear?

Go to school, unless you know what you're doing(which means your schooling has led to your education. But remember to not let your schooling get in the way of your education, as someone famous said.)

OP, I hated and struggled at school. I was a bright kid. Working my HARDEST I would scrape a pass, but I refused to give up. Doing what I needed is more important than doing what I wanted.

I mananged to fight my way into uni, and now I have the freedom to pursue my dreams of SEO and starting my own business. Don't forget where Google and Facebook started. School/college/uni gives me the work ethic, and an open platform.

I also HATE having a job, and guess what, I have a job. Because I KNOW I will need more than one basket for my eggs. For me, life is about opening as many doors as possible and making the most of EVERY opportunity.

But hey, if you want to quit. DO IT.

You should really rethink this whole "school sucks and isn't worth my time" attitude... You wouldn't believe how many people take the second route and go back to school when they're older! And honestly? What's the alternative for you right now? flipping burgers and doing IM on the side?

I took that stupid road back in my day, dropping out of business school to join the army... and years filled with sand, sweat and tears later I gave back my uniform... and went straight back and studied my ass off like a maniac! Why? Because it finally made sense then! School is about learning for life, and not learning for your parents/teachers/friends/goldfish.

Asking random people on the internet about your future isn't going to help you much... Only you can make that kind of decision.

I've been watching this thread for a while and have to agree with what LakeForest says.

Dropping out of school is a stupid idea, don't go to college if you don't want.

But if you're gonna be "so so" IMer, better stick with university degree.

If you wanna go full-time, I'm sure you'll earn much and arrange your future, simple as that.

School is the best. You gain a lot of knowledge and hopefully become something. No reason to hate it
