Went to withdraw $300 from the local ATM with my (prepaid) MasterCard. ATM showed "take your money" message and spit out my card - no money. Sure it charged me anyway, so now I have whopping $1.89 on my account, and no cash.

Not cool bro, not cool. I'm like fucking two weeks behind in rent payment since I was waiting for this money, and now the fucking stupid piece of shit equipment took all of it. I'm going to start using animal skin as a form of payment soon...

Were you able to get it back? If not, good luck... I would hate to lose $300 just like that.

That happened to me once, but i wasn't paying attention and the slide thing closed. If it was a bank ATM they'll be able to see that they are +300 and you'll be able to get that money back.

If it was something like a gas station ATM, i have no idea.

I'm currently contacting both the bank and my card issuer, so we shall see.

I'm quite sure I eventually get the money back (they can track down that while charge was made, no actual cash was given by the ATM, right?), but the major problem is that I need the cash now. Or more like, two weeks ago!

edit.
It was bank ATM, in a mall. Also, there are no slide-thingies in other that in deposit machines in Thailand I reckon, and the ATM's play music and flashing lights and what not so one simply cannot miss the money - or their card.

And as I've worked as CSR in the past, I know that ranting about it for the poor rep in bank won't change anything. Or, maybe it'll just bury your case under everything else. So just taking it easy, I'm screwed anyway :)

I believe they have cameras on each ATM.. so there is proof that you didn't take the money

Fake ATM machine? :D

why didn't you call customer care? i'm sure your case is not first so they must aware about this type of situation. there must me some way to get back your money.

Well, in the bank they said "contact your card supplier", and their CS is still closed as I have Payoneer card (from US). I've let them know about it, and I'm sure they'll get onto it later today.

Might have to skip my daily beer tonight...

You will get it back. Did the same thing to me for a couple hundred. Next day the bank called me in the morning to tell me they refunded it. I did not even have to call them lol

Contact your bank.. You can get your money back...

Lodge a written complaint with your bank, the money will come back into your account in 2 weeks.

What bank / ATM was it? I always go to the ATMs inside the actual banks in Central World etc. and withdraw 20K baht to keep the fees down, so that if it eats my money the staff are right there to bitch at. Hasn't happened yet thankfully... Thailand definitely isn't a country where you want to get stuck with no money. What a nightmare.

TMB.

This was also the first time ever that this has happened to me.
And I've been struggling with money since line November when all my clients practically disappeared, so I'm pretty much dried out already. Luckily I've been receiving daily increased number of work orders in the past couple weeks, so I should be out of this hellhole soon. But shit like this really upsets me...

And to all telling me what to do - I know what to do. I don't really doubt getting my money back in the end. It's just a rant for now having the cash I need now, now.

i totally back this
you have to contact the customer care , and they could sort it out , either the ATM is fault or there is not enough cash in the mechine either way you need to inform the customer care and they will have logs and cc tv to veryfy that you did not get your money , don't worry .

I did, and I need to file a claim for this, which they'll send to MasterCard - and I should be getting my money back within 120 days. Wonder if my landlady buys the story...
