For my site I bought a .com but the wording was long. I luckily found a very short .biz that I could 301 redirect to and put on my business cards and tell people about. Super easy to type out compared to the longer .com address. Anyway, while learning about backlinks and browser tools, I ran an ahrefs scan on my .biz domain and found a DR55 D0follow link from what I presume to be an old owner of the domain as the anchor text is totally unrelated to my niche or .com address. I thought that while it's a small or minuscule victory for most users here, it was a huge win for me to already have any type of help right off the jump.
And in a year when I wind up with 2,500 backlinks I'll look back and remember the little free one. Well, the cost of the domain, but that wasn't hateful.
