I have no idea if he made a mistake.. or is giving up.. but he'd been doing whitehat link building for 5+ years on it and it's in my niche.

I don't want him to see a link from it to my site.. but I want its link juice..

am I a dick.. should I ask him about it..

what would you do?

Give it back to him (if you're actually friends.) Maybe he will give you a backlink for doing so. Plus, him maintaining the site means it will retain the authority you are seeking from it if you do get a link.
 
This is a moral decision for you to make.

Benefit from the domain or save your friends ass. You pick.

I know. I feel bad.. but he must of had 100 emails telling him it would expire, right? ugh. I think I'll ask him what happened to his old domain tomorrow. (it was 301 to his new site)
 
I am dumbfounded that you would log on to Blackhatworld, click on "make a new thread button" and ask strangers about if you should ask YOUR friend. Here's a quick solution for you, ask your freaking friend, man. That's it.

If he doesn't know that you know he had a site like that, then no problem...but if he knows, then talk to him, ask why he dropped it but make sure the discussion point to you getting it in the end. You are a MARKETER. Just psych the already psyched dude and get what you want from him but with permission:)
 
Talk to him and do what you guys mutuallt agree. You can keep if he doesnt need it anymore.
 
Get your paper up he got caught lackin' fam. It's not stealing, he let it drop. He probably won't be friends with you after that but if that's something you can live with than so be it. It's not the 'wrong thing' to do he let it drop but at the same time consider the effort he's put into it.
 
Tell him bout it and give him back.. Let him decide if you should take it..
 
look like your friend does not really bother about his site, he should learn from this lesson

Well, in my opinion you should give it back to him. You even call him a friend so it should be clear what to do here. :)

Why not do a deal with him and run it between you as friends. There must be a good reason why, I doubt if he'd just walk away after all that work. Good friends are hard to come by, don't waste it
 
Don't judge the OP till you know his friend. His friend my be a real bad arsehole. Kind of friend who fucks your girlfriend. Keep that domain OP. You done nothing wrong. Don't listen to all these haters.
