Hey guys, just want to share a funny (and not so funny) story.
I've been testing a lot of different marketing strategies during my years but never tried SEM or SEO before. I've been through email marketing, sms-marketing, phone campaigns, you name it, but lately I decided that SEM is that frickin way to go ranger joe, so I signed up for a Crypto CPA-campaign.
If you didn't know, Crypto is STRICTLY forbidden on Google and possible Bing and I knew this, but that wasn't a concern since I always have this thought in my head that I might pass and shit. Also, I have a domain called http://www.Bitcoin-XXXX.se which makes it even more clear what the site / landing page is about. Anyhow, I had already tried google adwords for another project which was green card related and therefore I just logged in, added my site and started to add keywords.
First of all, I didn't know shit about Enhanced Auto-Bid vs Manual Bid etc. so I had googles algo pushing my campaign. Also, I did actually get denied a couple of times but I just made changes, un-aware of how strictly forbidden Crypto really is. I don't remember if it was actual display ad or display url or whatever it was , but I kept on doing minor changes and BOOM, google wanted me live on their search engine, on the most forbidden keywords + ad saying "MAKE $5,545 IN 24 HOURS" basically.
Since I didn't understand bidding system at all, I paid a lot of money per keyword. We are talking Google's Algo helping me reach #1 on everything. Avg. $5 per click. I kept feeling like _The Man_ cus I actually had a crypto-ad to my landing page to my affiliate site where the CPA is $650. I felt like i'm on top of the world and that I actually had a secret skill and google algo would just let me make money.
I was so wrong.
After 583 exposures / 38 clicks / $5.5 avg Click / $210 spent (credit) I had made 4 account opened, 1 CPA. I was like daaaaaaaaaaaaamn, but I had no more money to add to my google adwords account.
I was even going to write to my affiliate manager and ask for pre-pay but around 3 days after I get the account banned because of "cloaking".
I am still rolling on the floor laughing and crying at the same time because:
1. I didn't know what cloaking was, but they are saying I hide my content (which make sense, Landing page to affiliate site without any text basically, just a button pushing visitor down to offers).
2. They haven't mentioned Crypto at all in my suspended account
3. I haven't paid a dime (even though I have to since I want to use Google Adwords for whitehat as well)
I was either extremly lucky or I am in trouble and might burnt my name. I hope they can see me as a big newbie with bad behaviour of course that can change and not this stupid idiot who should be permanent ban.
side note: Before I got banned I opened a bing advertise account and i'm still waiting for me to get banned, but it seems like the super-bots can't touch me for now. Took 5 days just to get some impressions because of a lot of changes made. My "@BITCOIN-xxxx.se" is not usable at all on Bing so I have to do direct marketing which they actually approve believe it or not.
