I get 1k spam comments per day WITH captcha!

New wordpress blog
Initially had no captcha requirement on my website
Worked good the first few weeks before it got indexed by Google probably
After this I woke up with around 10 spam comments, I deleted them and didn't think about it
A couple days later I got flooded with 10k spam comments and a few thousands registrations
Added captcha to all forms on website, this reduced spam comments significantly but I still get 20-50 botted signups and comments per day even though I use captcha.

It's very annoying and the spam makes my articles look bad so I have to get rid of them, how?

I can't even clean up the DB since it's lagging so extremely much that I can't even access the comments table...

I have Akismet installed but it doesn't seem to do much work, tried 4-5 different "Spam remover plugins" but they're all shit and removes around 1% of all spam comments...
 
Advertise on BHW
maybe switch to something like Disqus or Facebook comments. Alternatively you can disable comments from users that are not registered, this usually dissuades most spam.

There are plugins that will help to mass delete comments

Disqus is my last option, FB comments suck, many people want to comment anonymously. Wasn't it clear in my first post that I am aware of plugins that deletes spam? I told you I have tried 4-5 such plugins and none of them worked properly. Then you are sitting here telling me that there are anti spam plugins for WP without naming any plugin. :mad:

I will absolutely not force users to register on my website in order to make a comment, nor will I disable comments or moderate them. My website is very open and transparent and I want it to be easy for anyone to comment and share their opinion without having to go through the hassle of registering an account.

Have you tried Clean talk? Works for my clients. basically,CleanTalk blocks spam comments, spam bot signups and trackbacks. The comments are uploaded to CleanTalks’ cloud servers wherein it undergoes multiple validation checks and one of those checks include – comment submitted too quickly, and the likes. Its a premium plugin Btw.
 
As a spamer, what do you usually spam, i think backlinks right? Get out the possibility of having backlinks in your comments and ensure to delete any footprint in your page install akismet, enable recaptcha and have luck

Acting like an asshole with someone who is trying to help won't solve your issues. Get Disqus or completely remove the comment section, it's that simple

I use some shitty old 5 letter captcha, will try reCAPTCHA!

Yes I have it installed but I still get spam registrations and comments.

I am sorry for being an asshole to you. I was very annoyed when I replied to your post, the cup overflowed because I had spent some time testing many anti spam plugins but they all were completely worthless, then you told me to try some anti spam plugins. It got me very triggered. Sorry, I guess you just wanted to help me.

I have a hard time holding my feelings back online when I can shout and scream and call people idiots without any consequenses. My bad and I am sorry.
 
Edit your source WP comment section..
so no backlink or live link in your comment..
check wpbeginer for xpl..
 
Definitely try and allow only followers to comment on your Blog. If you leave it wide open, things like this can happen any time.
 
Delete the spam comments by batch, install Disqus, and be nice answering replies to your thread. Alright? :D
 
If it's people building backlinks, either remove the website option or make it nofollow. That should stop them.
 
disable comments and remove them, use mysql queries, remove all comments :P then go for disquss or fb..
 
its strange that akismet makes 99% of spam disbale
u have cofigured it? put akismet key for sure?
