I explored the "deep web" with Tor this week. Anyone have any experience with it?

There does not seem to be a decent search engine for it but I guess that is kind of the point right? The overall experience was very similar to my first experiences with the WWW back in 1995. Lots of hype and no content there to speak of.

There is an overabundance of child porn (much like the web in 1995) but other than that there does not seem to be much there.


There did seem to be some interesting stuff going on in relation to hacking/cracking and carding but I could find nothing regarding SEO except one guy with a site selling xrumer profile links for an extremely inflated price.

There is one site up that is a sort of craigslist for drugs. You can order marijuana and have it shipped to you and they say the packaging is so good the shipment will not be detected. I am not going to try this for an abundance of reasons. Mainly because I am too old to be smoking pot.

This "deep web" runs using the Tor Onion network

There are supposed to be 2 search engines the one that is supposed to be better seemed to be down and the other only returns 10 hits at a time. The only other half reliable source of a list of Deep Web sites seemed to be the "hidden wiki" and it took me a half an hour to find out where they hid it this week.

Anyone have any thoughts they would like to share on the "deep web" or suggestions at places to check out there I am interested but otherwise it seems to be a bust.

Yeah I've browsed a bit.. nothing too interesting, just drugs, CP and any vile pornography you can think of.. scat CP, etc.. terrible stuff. I heard SR analogue for firearms trade was being made.. I don't know who would ever use these services. I mean no one would bother tracking you down for a few acid blotters, but explosives and firearms? Come on..

Also, you cant be too careful when browsing tor hidden services or "the deep web", it's full of hackers, cops of various agencies and hacker cops, lol. Configure your Tor and Tor browser properly and don't just browse for the fun of it, only go to a few sites you know are legit and you'll be fine

What exactly did you think you were going to find there? A sweet secret hideout where all the cool people on the internet were hiding?

Secret SEO strategies, Cracked XRumer 7, Paypal cash generating software... etc.

Kidding aside, I browsed the 'deep web' once but really really hated the place for all the gibberish there. Couldn't find a single thing I could put into a positive use.

Pretty much sums up my experience with it!

Silk Road is a very interesting concept to me but I would never risk using it (risk vs reward just doesn't make sense)

There's nothing interesting in there, just random things.

And even the stuff on silkroad is overpriced, its cool to have tor and the deep web their, with acta sopa etc you can see that governments want controll on d interwebs

Some *seriously* powerful stuff on this site. It's all about learning how to search for ANY sort of information you want. Google is only the tip of the tip of the iceberg of the Internet.

I started browsing Deep Web about a month ago, collected a list of as many sites as I could. But then visited daily, and found nothing there was, as bary said, useful for me. Drugs, murderers, kidnappers, weapons, sex, slaves, child porn (I didn't see that of course), human experiments, hacking, stolen CC's... I'm not sure if I would ever need all this.

At first, it all seems to amazing, and terribly underground. But hey, anyone who can download Tor can visit those sites. It's no rocket science.

Yes, 1 thing I did was boast to my friends about the places I visited there.

Well I can tell them where all I have been, it's all safe. Can't tell what all is there.

Actually someone should make some sort of ultra black hat community in the deep web. That way new techniques won't get patched. We all know Matt Cutts loves to lurk this site.

I've heard of it but never bothered to browse it b/c of all the CP that's said to be floating around.

The deep web is kinda the last true total anarchy...

Saying it's bad or it's good is irrelevant, it's all just a total sum up what we are fighting against today.

Control, laws, illegal activities...

We all know there is CP in the deepweb, do i support it? No!

But if you say you don't want to have big companies documenting your life and you are against control you will have to accept the anarchy with all it's pros and cons.

Life is not about picking the cherries you want...

It is nice to see most of us share the same ideas about the "deep wild web". Got there while messing with proxies stuff some years ago, came back a few weeks ago for also "boasting" with a close mate. Two years had passed and it still looks like some kind of fake "wild west". I mean "fake" cos: you know there is the "Big Brother" somewhere (not as omnipresent as in www ), you know that unless you are a pro you are always leaving footprints behind, you can clearly see that many coding structure is similar (unless I know little about coding) thus there are blackholes / traps everywhere... last but not least, the more curiosity you have the more likely to get in trouble. First rule on life.
My opinion on this issue in similar to drugs, it is not bad having some curiosity, but the higher / stronger the experience, the more likely you will get addicted to it. Same as BHSW and IM . Nevertheless, I could consider the "deep web" as a good resource for some ethical hacking into the system. I live in Spain, and I know there are many people using this level of the web for sharing valuable anti-political / system tactics / resources.
