Well is has been a couple years now, I think but they are paying you likely for those who watch at least 1/2 of the pre-roll? video. When ever a video commercial plays
before your YT video, if someone watches at least 1/2 of the commercial, you get paid. My income went up 5X's when I learned about that and clicked the box in the monentize tab when ever I uploaded videos on YT. "TrueView in-stream ads" make the Adsense $$.

yep, it's from the views. It's usually around $1 for $1,000 views.

More than 1000 views and no clicks at all?
You better consider changing your ads positions.
Read about heatmap, it really works.
And yes, this 1 cent is for views.

Adsense runs CPC and CPM ads. In some niches you will get a ton of CPM bids, if you break it down you will see certain advertising networks sending you CPM ads for your page and the RPM, how much they pay per 1,000 views.
