I've been social bookmarking quite heavily for about 4 months and using onlywire and had some traffic sure,

But none of my tools, yahoo/backlinkwatch etc included show any inlinks coming from them,

There are people who make money using SB as SEO services...

If no inlinks show up then how can they help?

Many of the thousands of social bookmarking sites out there are of such low quality and
spammed so heavily that they are nearly worthless.

Others like reddit, mixx, digg, current, oneview which are moderated and use strict anti-spam
screening are much more valuable and will definately show up in yahoo site explorer as a
backlink (from personal experience) and in fact many of these these will even show up in
google's results if you used sufficiently unique text and keywords when doing the bookmarking.

Maybe that's where the fault lies with Onlywire..

You can't add additional text...

It uses propeller, tumblr + others facebook twitter etc

But you can't add/spin a description - just some text to the comments box..

In which case what they claim about offering seo quality is false.

In my personal opinion, it does very little for SEO

I personally use social bookmarking mostly to get backlinks noticed and actively indexed / paid attention to with the search engines.

I have found that even a low quality social bookmark campaign will help get your website indexed quickly, but for it to actually help with ranking you need unique descriptions etc...

I stick with web2.0, profiles and blog commenting for link building

Then i use social bookmarking and rss feeds to get all the links recognized in google...

The purpose of social bookmarking in SEO is not to get backlinks, but rather to alert Google of your site and also backlinks you have created. Therefore, by bookmarking a backlink to your site, Google will discover the backlink to your site and recognize it a lot faster than it would if you just left it. The same goes with your actual website.

Sure - just wanted to high light really how onlywire DOES NOT offer any seo qualities but sure - as pointed out in this thread, digg and others where you can leave some text do.

Thanks all for clarifying it.

Quick question for everyone....If I have a 100 spoke link wheel how many bookmarks per spoke should I make??? Also if the spoke has been indexed already should I waste my time bookmarking the spoke???

I have found that using onlywire for each post usually gets that post ranked well. It doesnt really do anything for the root domain, but basically the post becomes a long tail keyword and I get search traffic from it.

The biggest mistake people make when approaching bookmarking is valuing quantity over quality. Just like a thousand nofollow PR0 links wont live up to a handful of decent links, so submitting your URLs to hundreds of poor SB sites wont get you much benefit.

I'd take a look at which SB have decent domain PR, and then figure out which have an internal, **************** linking structure to pass that down to your link. I've personally identified a handful of SB sites that give as much benefit as submitting to the whole 100/150/200 lists some of the SB provided on BHW provide.

PS... didn't mean to tease you over the "worthwhile" sites, but it's definitely best to find your own. If you do a little digging yourself, not only might you learn something, you also wont be following the set pattern that everyone else is.

can anyone share a wordpress plugin as an alternative to onlywire please?
