I don't know where to start..

I've been programming/scripting in various languages (including web languages) for well over 10 years now. I've made a couple of thousand dollars online, however it was from creating a plugin for another application that let you cheat at a video game. I was a member on a trading forum for the game, and advertised my plugin and sold it to other members on the website. I managed that plugin and made updates to it daily for half a year, until the game developers updated the games anti-cheat engine and the application my plugin was based from is no longer working.

When I created my plugin for that application I mentioned above, it's because I looked at the example plugin provided, seen the basics on how the platform operated and got an understanding of how the API worked, and went from there expanding into a huge project. I didn't even know the programming language at the time, however from that adventure alone it turned me on to the language, and that's what led me to further learning and understanding C/C++. I would essentially like to apply the same concept to this new online adventure, hoping that someone could share a resource or show someone with a bit of technical background the essentials on a great place to start.

I've been renting a good VPS with cPanel for over two years now, doing absolutely nothing besides sitting there running idle. I used the VPS for communication with authentication using plugin I mentioned above, but since then I have not been doing anything with the server. I have been giving consideration to starting up a couple of websites -- hoping to start up another source of income. I don't need much extra income a month.. $300-$500 ($10-$17/day) would do me just right.. the issue is not knowing where to begin on making that happen.

I was getting started into making money online a few years ago, and signed up with Adscend Media, and CrakRevenue. Both of those accounts are still active and I'm able to login to them, however I never actually ended up doing anything with either of those that returned in me earning anything. I suppose this is my actual point of being stuck and not knowing what to do. I keep wanting to think this is more complex than what it needs to be, however I really don't have a friendly person to talk with about these things. I would do anything for a mutual partnership, joint venture, 50/50 project, or simply a stranger helping me get started. I'm sure there would be some way I could return the favor in the future, especially given my programming/scripting background.

I have 10-15 hours a day, $100 start-up cash,10+ years of programming knowledge & web design skills, a VPS, and an understanding of most technical aspects that are required to succeed. I have always been self-sufficient and taught myself everything that I know, however it seems starting this venture is too confusing for me to grasp without some assistance. There are too many choices in terms of which way to go and what methods to use, and I would really just appreciate someone recommending me a good starting position.

I can really relate to your confusion. Because I was there too. My advice, stop listening to other people and gain time making something useful. In a rough way:

1.Grab a notebook and write down everything you know
2. Turn your camera on and start a live stream on Youtube, where you can teach others how to program
3. That's it

Built a list of followers and you will see that your effort will be more rewarded than wasting time taking a course after course or watching other peoples' success stories.

They never tell you how they got started, they already show you the results. I must be grateful for an admin here, closing my thread was the best slap because I realized the potential to seek traffic and support from elsewhere.

I really got enraged and forced to do it on my own. So that's the only way. Build a community, put your face out there without the fear of people trolling you. Get an audience and engagement.

You know this stuff. I'm not that technical, I'm more audiovisual and detail oriented. Anyway, talk about what you know and you like!

I know that programmers are not that social in the real world, but in your virtual space, you are the master!

Design an app on paper and show it to the world. Don't get scared that someone else will steal your idea. Ideas are everywhere. But we waste time trying to save others while ignoring our needs.

Money is like music. So is programming. Put the right tune and the right lyrics and start mixing!

Thank you for taking the time to offer me your input, recommendations, and knowledge!

What you mentioned was a different approach than what I was thinking, but it sounds like a great idea and something that I am considering starting.

In addition to angellutz great and individual response I would say that it is the best advise.
Other ways to earn money with IM requires what every startup requires: a unique and good idea.

Most of us here wouldn‘t share their best ideas to the public. So if you want to go the IM way you would need e.g. a great dropshipping product or a niche with low competition and high demand...
Even if you find such a unicorn you need to be fast and good to keep ahead of competitors.

So best luck and stick to angellutz advice

You have excellent writing skills as well. You can earn that much easily as a content writer here on the forum if you have a sales thread.

However, using your programming skills may be more rewarding in my opinion.

Wow. This is a great conversation. First, you must see what you want to do, in front of your eyes. If your mobile phone's battery is wasted and you put everything there, it's a loss. So pen and paper!

Second. Don't do what everybody tells you to. If you like something, pursue that. Put that VPS to work, do some Javascript, Html, c++

Programmers do the back end, not the front end. That's for designers, editors, writers, and promoters. So, create an app on paper and code it on your favorite program. Don't explain how that app was built, say what that app does and host it on your VPS for free (just cause you own it) CEO.

Find a promoter for that app, market it out and live with the commissions.

I can promote you on me Youtube channel (not popular, but it's a start)

Being a content writer here on the forum is an excellent idea, however it would likely be my last resort, simply due to the fact that I would rather use my design/programming skills. I'm not downplaying your idea at all -- as it will likely be the route I choose in the end.

I'm quite confident in my web design and programming abilities, however it's just getting past the initial idea and start-up. I have difficulty learning new things, perhaps it could be a little bit of anxiety from the uncertainty, however once I get started it's hard to stop me. When I have a project under my belt that is bringing income, it will be incredibly easy for me to scale up or improve that project, which would give me a huge understanding on what I should be doing for other ventures.

I just noticed that you were banned, which I suppose that means the entire response I typed above was pointless, fantastic!

I have decided not to attempt anything and simply keep applying for a second job. I figure that within 2-3 weeks from now that I could be receiving a decent little first paycheck from a second job, and realistically that's more than I would be achieving from anything on here within that time-frame.
