I swear I am not on a FB hate jag but they're getting punched in the poo poo quite a bit at the moment.

Ze Germans have just outlawed their ad busines.

Zuckerberg is getting twatted quite a bit rn. Wonder what gives. Maybe nothing. Maybe this is just normal.

Surely this isn't a conspiracy to mess FB up....or is it? Or does everyone just hate them? Hmm...

Eventually Facebook is just going to start charging users in the EU something like €3-4 a month instead of having to deal with a bunch of hassle over providing a free service in exchange for you seeing ads in products and/or services you would be more interested in.

Facebook does not have a monopoly because of the data it has but because any competitor would be slandered heavily. The only way to compete with something like Youtube,Twitter, Facebook etc. is to allow more legal content instead of having restrictions. Gab tried to compete with twitter but the media slammed them so much that they have lost payment processors, both Apple and Google made it impossible for non tech orientated people to install Gab on their phone.

I'm not sure if charging is the issue, i think it's in the nature of the service itself.

I maintain that a decentralised, email-client-personal-mobile-device-based replacement is the obvious outcome for social media.

FB turned us all into lab rats, yet the service they provide is....is....

Simply the high concentration of users.

Every other function is something you can get anywhere else.

Discord and similar are the next stage, and it is relevant to Telco's as well, as we change the way we use comms.

I've always thought FB was an aberration of history, but some mistakes are built to last and I haven't been able to see a firm Decline phase, yet i feel it's inevitable, just as with My Space.

The increasing tempo of anti FB actions and press feels like the human system rejecting the parasite.

There really isn't a rejection of social media, just more of a beef between the EU regulators and American tech giants. People are switching to another one of Facebook's services anyway. https://www.usatoday.com/story/tech...line-facebook-owned-social-network/433361002/

I agree, I don't think it's a rejection of SM, I think it's a reasonable change from an unlikely centralised ancestor to an evolved distributed model.

By that logic, most of these centralised platforms must go the same way until eventually its all the same functions, from an app, that you control, on your device, like Peer to peer social networking, similar to a discord.
