So, after getting ready to kick off work last wednesday on my first autoblog - I came down with a really nasty cold. By wednesday evening I started having lesions show up on my face, and a sore throat. By thursday I was exhausted to the point I couldn't move - I slept around 36 hours straight. Despite all of this, I had no appetite.

Friday I went to see the doctor.
His response to all of my questions? "It looks viral. You'll just have to work through it". I asked if I was contagious, he said he didn't know.

That was all the jerk told me. I could have figured out it was viral just by googling the symptoms - look like I have the measles, exhaustion, utter lack of appetite, lesions all over my body, white lesions in my mouth, etc. Possible viruses? Coxsackie, Chicken Pox, Measles. Chicken pox is closest. I've never had it before, but I did get the first of two immunizations against it.

I called back to the doctor's office to find out if there is any chance of the doctor seeing me, but he stated he preferred I stay out of the office if i may be contagious!

So I asked if there was any chance in my starting to feel better, and I got the same damn response. "It's viral, you've got to work through it".

So, I have a mystery virus, which the doctor can't tell me is contagious or not. Further, he can't tell me how long I may be contagious for. This is important considering I work in a building with 30000 other employees who fly all around the world. Money I am out from the doctor with no real information or help? $40.

    I hate doctors.

Ok, enough complaining. I am sick and grumpy.

I've heard of this before, you have a deathly disease which will end your life in two weeks.

This is the first time I've had a personal doctor in close to 10 years, for this exact reason. It seems like they're either unreliable like the one I'm encountering now, or they're legal drug pushers just trying to make commissions off of selling pharmaceuticals to you.

Hope you feel better soon, Matt. If not, I have 30 articles on (keywords) physician's malpractice insurance. Email him one of those.

I dislike doctors as well for the same reason. I don't mind the unreliable/clueless doctors so much. I just see them as a waste of money and time. It is the pushy salesmen type doctors who are scrutinizing your body to find new reason to inject you with "medications" that make me dislike doctors so much. Unfortunately, every doctor I've seen or brought my kids to in the last five or so years are the salesmen type doctors with the exception of the ER and ICU docs. I still have hope that there are good general practice doctors out there, but not as much hope as I once did.

Find a new doctor, you can always ask for a second opinion. The first reply in this thread is B***S*** btw.

Appreciate it! After working with a nurse practitioner (benefits of dating her daughter), we're pretty sure I have chicken pox at this point. Its weird because I did have the vaccination, but apparently that doesn't always block it. The vaccination is a series of 2 shots, and I only got the first one, so that could be it.

At least I theoretically don't have to worry about ever getting it again, right?

There's not much he can do for you at this juncture most likely.

But the trick to customer service, is to ACT like you care, even when you know, the whole matter is out of your hands and the best course of action is no action at this phase.

In a study of malpractice lawsuits, a doctor's level of expertise did not correlate with their probability of getting sued.

A doctor's bedside manner correlated much better.

You get what you pay for dude. Never hire Discount doctors :p

I dont like them either though. My dad got BSed about having cancer a few years back; spent close to $40k on test - ended up being a cyst.
