Hello SEO experts,

I have been practicing white hat SEO for five years and am curious about a phenomenon I encountered, which I think might be related to black hat tactics.

I once published an article that attracted significant traffic, but it was subsequently copied and pasted onto other websites. Curious, I searched Google using the article’s title to see how many sites had duplicated my content. To my surprise, one of the search results with an identical title tag led me to a completely different landing page, not the content I expected.

I've heard this referred to as a "clone." Is that the correct term? How does this happen?

It's cloaking.. The redirect only happens when you come from Google. If you copy and paste the url, it's possible you won't be redirected.
 
These are churn & burn projects. They buy expired domains in bulk, scrape & publish content from other sources (like your website), redirect users to an offer or install malware. Google eventually blocks these sites and they spend 0.1% of their profits to start a new site.

It's called doorway pages, however, you should use it very carefully because Google will penalize you 99.9% of the time.
