I have used Google API before, but Google's own indexing is much better, I am absolutely sure of this, I have tested it many times.
If your website is new, you should choose low-search keywords using semrush or ahrefs, and then it is much easier to rank for these keywords.

Word count doesn't matter anymore. I have many sites with 300 words and their rankings are in the top 3.
