    I am unsure about the security of my blog. What are the chances of my blog getting hacked? Which is the best security WP plugin? I remember when i activated like wp firewall plugin and it did not allow me to edit my theme.. gave warnings... I also want to retain BACKUP, how should i do that? should regularly download files from hosting? which folder? or there must be a plugin for that also?

    i have a couple of security rules for my sites which has worked relaitvly good so far

    * Always update the wp core to the latest version
    * Always update your plugins/themes
    * Don´t have any unused plugins lying around
    * Think : Do i really need this plugin and what do it do
    * If possible check the age of the plugin, if its old the developer might have stopped upgrading it and then it could be vunerable for attacks
    * Use strong passwords and not the same on all sites

    Whit these thought i belive you can go a long way whitout even using a security plugin

    • Thanks Thanks x 2

    ^ The above is pretty much what I do too, plus good security on machine's you use to access your blogs/websites (i.e your home computer). Latest version of your favorite virus scanner. I use Avast.

    also you wound want to redirect your wp-admin page to something else, so whenever someone type yoursite.com/wp-admin, he would be redirected to 404 not found page. There was someone who can do this on fiverr. Not sure now..

    If you have inactive plugins that you dont use in months it will become a security risk if they are hacked or tampered whit.

    Even though they are not active, they could infect your system, but its also good to keep it clean, things you dont use, remove them and you will get a much better view of everything

    Don't use bad warez/p2p themes, because a lot of them include malicious codes

    I forgott that you should a backup of your site when its finished or atleast once a month if you have an active site. If something happens (not just hacks, my sites went offline due to a hdd crash at the host as example) you could restore the sites whit a clean backup
