I am planning to make a tech-review website like cnet.

Hello!
I am thinking of building a new website that will contain tech-reviews. My contents will all be original and thinking of adding reviews from oculus rift to cell phones.
After talking to my friends, what they advise me is to narrow down the content of my website. It is never better idea to include everything on one website. I am struggling a lot to find the right keyword that I should focus on, can anyone help?
I am trying to monetize my website through the CJ affiliate program!

First: Realize that it's a very competitive niche with millions of competitors. Your cost to break through in this niche is probably in the hundreds of thousands of $.

I think you will give up after a couple of days when you have to cannot compete with your competitors. Know this that Cnet is ran by a team and alone wolf in technology stuff doesn't count :d

Like you said after two months of hard work I have given up! But it does not mean that I wasted my time and energy. I got to learn a lot about IM through that website as it was my first website. Now I am into second website that targets specific product and cnet never writes review about that product but it gets more than 1k search per month! and i am trying to monetize it with only amazon affiliate.
Any suggestions this time will be highly appreciated!

Dude, #### that - don't give up. Smartphones, VR, and other trending topics are fine, don't narrow it down if it will limit how much content you can build for the site. If making a site with various topics will keep you writing and publishing articles daily, then you're going to do great.

Focus on social media traffic, posting frequently, and keeping up with the latest news. If you can't post daily you won't get anywhere, but if you can post 3+ articles a day you will gain some traction, especially if you're sharing it through social networks and building up profiles.

It's full-time work if you want to compete in a larger niche, but it can make you thousands a day if you pull it off. Think of getting in Google News, Bing News, NewsFusion, News Republic, Flipboard, etc. Review the latest products, share the latest pre-orders on upcoming products, etc.

Amazon is the way to go, good luck with whatever you choose to do!

While this is very competitive I think that you can do it if you put your mind to it. Best of luck to you on it.

My thoughts exactly. This niche is incredibly lucrative which is why the companies in the SERPS worth a damn are million dollar companies. Even picking a particular niche of a certain tech or device is going to go now her without a lot of time a ton of money and a bit of luck.

Bigger players are already in this niche. SEOwise, you won't be able to even compete with them without BIG money in your pocket. You can try other methods of traffic like FB, Reddit etc.
