    Hi guys,

Today i have started adwords campaign for the online game my company has launched, but i probably made a mess. The game is online browser mmorpg about pirates and it can not be played on mobile phones. CTR with textual ads are 6% to 8% per add group, but banner ads are having very bad CTR, also registrations from adwords are horrible. Could you suggest what could be wrong please? Maybe banners are ugly? Badly targeted? Should i use for banner ads keywords as well, or those group selections? Thanks!

CTR from display ads are always going to be less than PPC text ads... I wouldn't be too worried about it.

You should be focused on what your acquisition cost is per user, and what their monetization rate is.

Atm, its closed beta, so no monetization yet, but aqusition cost per user is too high. With fb it was bit less than $1 per user, with adwords, i have maybe got 4 registrations for 170$ which is way too expensive.

Create a 3 Good headlines for the main features of this program. Write 3 Articles based on the titles. Create a good intro on Fiverr as a teaser. Send links of video using a good fiverr video submission. Create a battery of comments for blog commenting on fiverr and have at it.

Then stick with facebook and keep optimizing your ads there?
Think of it like this: You just split tested adwords vs facebook and found out that facebook is way better. ;)

170$ for 4 registrations is very expensive, you should test always with different ad campaigns and the landing page should be easy for people and attractive. Adwords would be more benefitable for longterm, because they are targeted.

From what I understand from your post the CTR for the search network ads is 6-8 per cent - this is not too bad. For example the average throughout all of adwords across all industries using the search network is circa 3%

Look at your successes first - and I would examine the poor conversion/sign up rate. It looks like people are clicking on your ad but not converting, so look at the landing page. Do you have a dedicated landing page for the campaign?

Get traction with this and then look at the display network and apply lessons learned from your successes in the search network, but with the understanding that they are different channels and display will have lower CTR and CPC etc..

Hello, thank you guys for answers. Yes, clicks are there, and it seems that the landing page is problem. I Thought it might be the audience which was not aimed well, but registration rate has improved, tho it still is very low. Once landing page is changed (should be 2-3 days from now) will let you know if it regs have improved or not. Thanks for all suggestions!

Great to hear that you are getting some traction. In terms of the landing page and designing the page for conversions I would have a looking at the content produced by Marketing Experiments in their web clinic. Just google [marketing experiments]

I have no affiliation, but have found their methods the best for optimizing a page for conversions.

    Good Luck

Its not unusual Banner ads are low on CTR. as compare to text ads.
but how can anyone tell the exact reason without seeing the banner and other things such as demographics. etc
