I've wanted to start my own offline business for a long time with services like, SEO, Social Media, video marketing (animoto) Mobile Marketing (sms and mobile websites) I just never stepped in the right direct to get started.


My game plan:

Make a power point about me, my experiences, information about web marketing ( all those services I want to offer) and at the end say something like come talk to me if you think your business is missing one of these services.

Go talk to the Chamber of Commerce my Dad (pool business) is apart of and ask if I can do a 15 minute presentation on all this at the chamber.

What do you all think? Have any better ideas for me to get my foot in the door?

I'm 16 by the way.

Sounds great Christian. Do include your successes with SEO, SM. (How many sites have you ranked etc) And show some good and informative graphs. Good luck!
 
Try marketing restaurants etc also.

tubeincreaser (<< user) had a good method where he made a simple but effective video on his computer then uploaded it to his ipad and went into the restaurant and he showed the manager it.

He made quite a bit from it also :)

Its just a case of getting yourself out there then before you know you'll be in demand due to referrals , Ofcourse that depends on how well you do the job so make sure its done effectively and professionally !

When you say market them do you mean go in and talk to them?

Oh yeah I saw that. I have an iPhone, should I use that until I get the money?

The presentation is a great way to get some good solid leads to start off.

If that lands you your first few clients start using takticals referal method to expland your business
 
Yeah people aren't going to be interested in your skills, it seems odd but it's true.

They're interested in how your skills can HELP THEM. So create a case study of how your techniques could help one of their businesses. Use your dads business as an example.

Show examples of what you can do and how it will get more customers through their doors or calling them. That is all they care about, more business.
 
i personally wouldn't do a PP presentation - show by example, have them text or pull up a regular demo site to show why a site needs to be mobile, show them how to use a QR code that links to the mobile version of your demo site... and the benefits of why they need a mobile site, ie fast loading, quick access to info on the go, click to call, click for directions, etc, it keeps them focused - people have a short attention span! lol

Your right. So if I use a DEMO for like Mobile SMS and maybe have a Mobile Website ready with another site that isn't mobile and show them the difference?

How can I show they'll get more business with these types of services though?

That's true, thank you very much, so get my iPhone to plug into some big screen and show them?
 
i prefer to let them do the demonstration on their own phones - you can tell a handful of people what to do but i prefer small numbers...

you cant hook up an iphone to a big tv and do the demo unless its unlocked... the iphone will just output video and images, not your actual desktop/browser...

however some androids phones will though - ie Samsung Captivate

make at an easier sales pitch by making sure the people you demonstrate to will actually benefit from mobile marketing, bars, restaurants, clubs are a no brainer - once you get into it think outside of the box and you will find a way for ALL business owners to find mobile marketing useful!

Would you ever just walk into a club or restauraunt or whatever and show them?

dont try and ask them to hand over the phone unless you want an awkward moment - for some thats like handing over a child to someone they dont know! lol

people are very protective over their phones! lol

Lol. But ask them like "hey, can I show you how I can get you more business?"
 
That sounds like a great idea, even if you get 2-3 leads you will have a lot. Also after you will have great business references and you will be able to get even more business. Good Luck!
 
UPDATE:

I still haven't made anything. I'm working on getting business cards and a website.

My goal is to start making atleast $500 a month. That's all I need to pay for my insurance, car and phone. Then work from there to save money.

NEVER not start something because you fear failure as you will have failed without even starting!

Go for it - most people don't make money cos they are dreamers just sit there and ponder, and continue to read the next BS get rich scam - take action and if it fails try again and learn by your mistakes!

Good Luck - i think you have the right attitude to succeed and go further than you imagine!

That's me, I'm waiting for the next big thing and just reading and reading not taking action. But now is different.

ACTION STEPS: Buy business cards, Website, get content on it by Thursday.

2. Start handing them out at my Dad's chamber of commerce.

UPDATE:

I just got business cards that are pretty SNAZZY. Any ideas where and how to hand them out?

I still am feeling scared that I just went with only Mobile Marketing, when I felt I should have went broad like Social Media and SEO. But hopefully I can make some money with this then move on or upsell the customers to Social Media Marketing and SEO. :-)

Excited I actually have something to hand out. I really need to find out the best place to hand them out. :-)
 
Check out local business meetups. There are people that need exactly what you are offering all the time at places like those. Attend mixers, business conferences, and etc.

Cards are a little overrated- but go out there and kick some ass. Everytime you hit a returaunt - bar- club- business and you ask them how you advertise on the internet- bam you have a sale-

Get a good fake id so you can at least get into the clubs to promote! good luck
