A few days back, I had an interesting encounter on Fiverr that I wanted to share to caution freelancers. So, this person reaches out to me, claiming to be a freelance recruiter, right?. He drops his Telegram link, I click it, and boom - I'm on a page supposedly belonging to a Flexjobs recruiter. Red flag number one? The profile was filled with flashy cars and laptop photos – classic scammer move.
Now, this guy insists he works for Flexjobs (total lie), and offers me a translation gig. I smelled a scam brewing, having read about scammers posing as Flexjobs employees. Despite my suspicions, I played along. He hands me a contract that reads like it was written by an illiterate person, which had countless mistakes. Now, I write contracts and I know how well-written contracts should be.
Fast forward to Sunday, he asks for the completed job. I send a video of some previous Spanish translation work. He then gives me another person's username, claiming I'll get paid through them. The second guy tells me my whopping 5000 USD payment is ready, but here's the kicker – I need to fork over 100 bucks to link my details with their website (slick move, right?). He even sends a faux receipt from the Bank of America.
And here's the kicker – these guys will try as much as possible to convince you. They might send you videos of people claiming to have successfully withdrawn their money after paying the so-called "refundable" 100 USD fee. Prepare yourself to receive photos showing numerous bank and PayPal transactions, all in a bid to make you believe their scheme is legit. But let me be clear: it's all just bait. They'll play the "100 USD is nothing to us" card, trying to downplay the amount, but folks, let's be real – a hundred bucks is a lot, and falling for this is exactly what they want. Stay vigilant and don't let their elaborate tricks lure you in.
Instead of coughing up the cash, I question why they can't just deduct the 100 from the 5k. They realize they're caught, resort to mean messages, and then vanish by deleting everything on Telegram. They switch usernames like it's going out of style, and boom, blocked.
Moral of the story? Beware of these scammers. No one legit asks you for money to arrange an interview or secure a job. Verify the people claiming to be Flexjob recruiters and don't let yourself be a victim. Stay sharp, folks!
