I added no index tag to article by mistake

Hello, I have had added by mistake a no index tag to article. It used to rank for keyword for months and was ranking and then by mistake i added it and havent noticed till now. Its been like 2 months. When remove the no index tag can it still rank again is there are a memory that google have for that url and would it rank it as high?

Yeah it can rank again, just remove the noindex and request reindex in GSC. Might take some time to climb back, but if nothing else changed and links still there, you should recover. Google doesn’t “punish” for noindex, it just drops it from index until you fix it.

Yeap, it can rank again, once you remove the noindex, Google will re-crawl and re-evaluate it, but rankings may take time to return.
 
Once you remove the noindex tag and get the page recrawled (submit it in Search Console for faster pickup), Google will treat it like it’s back in the index. If the content and intent are still solid it can regain its old position but it might take a few weeks.
 
Yes if you remove the noindex tag google can reindex the page . If content and backlinks remain strong google does remember past performance of urls so there is a chance it can regain rankings .

Okay thank you for the answers! Before removing the no index tag is it okay to edit the article a lot because to change many parts of the article to improve it? I mean would google be okay if the article is different?
