I just incorporated my business, but before doing so I checked to see if a short version of the business name was available on godaddy. Sure enough a .com was available. BUT before I registered the domain I wanted to make sure the s. corp paperwork went through (which it did).2 days after my initial check I go to see that godaddy has purchased my domain and has it for auction @ $400. WTF!!!!

How are they allowed to do that?
Check searched domains / cross check for new business registrations by state, put domain for auction , then milk me.

F$(K!!!

I originally thought it was one of my competitors but then see that godaddy has done it. hurts even more.

now have a long version of my Co as domain name. : (

I'd be more likely to say it was coincidence but I think the lesson learned here is buy your domain when you know it's available... it's a $10 insurance policy.

Sux that it happened. Bad luck bro.

How do you know GoDaddy did it? If you see GoDaddy on the WhoIs then that is just the WhoIs Guard showing their details rather than the real owners. It doesn't mean that GoDaddy did it.

There have been too many of these coincidences in my opinion. I am starting to wonder if there is software that can track searches on GoDaddy or something like that. This is a very common story..

I have always

wondered the same thing because good domains ive found and then an hour later there being sold in auction in godaddy.com So I am not sure but does make you wonder, that is why I buy instant if the domain is avial

Dang, somebody took johnseroticbodyrubs.com?

But yeah, always spend the extra $10 and buy more than you think you need

This thing happened with me many times, that is why i dont suggest any body dont use godaddy.com .namecheap.com is best .I had all domains there.

Godaddy is well known for doing this. Never search for a domain on Godaddy. Use domaintools.com

Once you are certain you want the domain then register it right there with Godaddy otherwise they will steal it.

I've used godaddy lookup for several domains that are still available, but the domains themselves kind of suck I'm not sure if they have a person screen domain searches and pick ones they believe they can sell to you or what but that kind of practice sounds extremely shady and reflects poorly on them if its true.

I have had this happen on Network Solutions too - No coincidence I am sure.

It happened on my personal name - next day it was sold to someone... I hope those squatters just sit on it and take a loss for stupidity. You have got to have time and money to play that game... Unless of course, you are Godaddy themselves.

It is a shame to have to deal with these thief issues - but whatever - There are no profits if it never sells anyway.
