you should know that paying $300 doesn't guarantee you will get the domain. if another registrar gets the domain before godaddy, godaddy will refund you most of your money. if someone else bids on the domain it will go to auction. the official launch for .co for the general public is not until July 20

The Launch has three core stages:

Global Sunrise April 26 - June 10:
This phase is for trademark holders with exact match domain names registered prior to July 30, 2008. This allows companies to apply for their desired domain or domains and secure their trademarks. Matching domains will go to auction.

Landrush June 21 - July 13:
Landrush takes place from the end of June through mid-July, and will be open to anyone interested in registering domain names of high commercial value. Any interest in matching domains will go to auction.

General Availability July 20:
Once the Global Sunrise and Landrush processes are complete, .CO domains will become available to anyone in the world through participating registrars. Except where otherwise reserved by the .CO Registry or earmarked for premium auctions, .CO domains will be available to the public based on the chronological order of registrations on a first come, first served basis.

I really hate how these domain auctions are rolled out on new TLDs. ICANN has created such a racket for registrars it's not even funny anymore.

We think the USSR is gone, but it just took over ICANN and how it operates. If we had a truly open and democratic organization running, these domains would come out first come first serve like OP here thought it was.

.co certainly is a good one though. I can't count the number of times I mistakenly put in .co when entering an address.

If history repeats itself, it will take roughly a month or two after the auctions are done when you will start to get registrars making a push on the new TLD. Remember when .mobi came out? :) ... what a terrible joke on the world.

It would be nice if they bring this out like another low cost TLD like .info. Add a little variety to the spam bowl. :)
 
With that amount of money I pay all my 30 domains for one year, but .CO seems nice cuz some may mistype the .CO(M) and hit enter..
 
I took the risk and pre-register a .co. I hope in a few months that 300$ won't be a waste. Who knows I may just get a refund.
 
noobie question, but why are .co domains so special?
 
Co is for Columbia, right? I don't think they worth the money...
 
its a fluff show .co is just another overhyped cctld that will fade away like all the other big push cctlds

you can still get most keywords you want in other cctlds without shelling out 350
