Hello there fellow members. I've been active here on bhw a couple of years ago - i can't remember my old account so i created a new one.

Me and 2 mates have created a site which idea is to let people upload content. (Think 9gag, with a twist). People can upload images, gifs, videos, soundcloud and spotify urls. All of this will boil down into a big feed with likes and comments.

The problem is. We have zero traffic. The idea behind our site is that people should post content and the site is driven by the users. So we desperatly need users!

What we have done so far:
> Facebook group (~2000 likes *~1700 AMF) - posting entertaining pictures etc.
> Twitter (20 followers) *pretty much not used so far

Our idea right now is to focus on the facebook page and when we reach 50k-100k likes we will start "embedding" posts from our actual site.

What can we do to increase the traffic?
Any help is greatly greatly appreciated. Blackhat / whitehat, all tips are awesome. :)

Do the hard work and populate it with content yourself. If you have a budget, buy some advertising.
Another tactic would be to create unique content with your url and try to get it hot on popular humor sites.

Yes, we have created a lot of content ourselves. But you know, 3 man can not come up with tons of interesting and funny stuff alone!

That is actually a very nice tip. Thank you!

You could just spam the current popular platforms with posts that have your website watermark.
Or an option I prefer post unique content on popular platforms with a watermark of your site.

Oh yes, reddit is a must do. So far i'm thinking about reddit and 9gag.. :)

get skyrocket, ste_hughes, ropa and me in a room with fat chicks and booze ... the hangover series was nothing compared to how hilarious it will be.

buzzsumo.com - hit it and see what's trending nowadays... create related content

from what I've seen when doing research for something similar, in the funny stuff niche meme's usually come back if you give them a good boost.

hit reddit and even ***** for inspiration and also be prepared to create a lot of content and try setting your mind up to something extraordinary, not the same old & used meme that anyone can do... for example when I saw the pic below milk came out of my nose... and I wasn't drinking any.

Thank you for the inspirational talk!

I have really no clue what you meant with this though: "get skyrocket, ste_hughes, ropa and me in a room with fat chicks and booze ... the hangover series was nothing compared to how hilarious it will be."

it was supposed to read like this 'pay trolls to create content for you'

For original content having a satirical mind works well,

keep up with current affairs, celebs, sport, and take the piss mercilessly.

A lot of stuff you see is very obvious two dimensional humour, don't be afraid to make people think about it.

There is loads to write about, I could sit all day and do it, unfortunately though the only person that thinks I'm funny is me!!!

Good tips, thank you.

alllrite! We do not have any cash at the moment :/

go on 9gag and hunt for the comment trolls, try to find out something more about them and try to get them involved in your site as well... people like being somewhere before everyone else so it might work... I'd troll the hell out of your website if I wasn't so damn unfunny

What do you mean with "trolling"? Right now there is like 3 people voting. So basically anyone could get in there and post super boring stuff and get it to frontpage... - this kind of trolling? :<

I think you need to go back to STAGE 1 of your website plan: keyword selection. It's ok to have a niche and a site idea, but if you're looking to get mass visitors, you'll need to rank for popular search terms. Check the Google Keyword Tool for terms like "funny", "meme" and "joke" and see what people are looking for. Then set up some landing pages for those terms.

If you've been building a facebook following then use the content from your posts on the site. Build up a large amount of content and ensure the site has image optimisation (alt tags, image .xml sitemap) so you get hits from Google Images.

It's hard to motivate people to upload content to a website unless they get something in return (everyone just shares on social networks instead). Think about your own opinion: what would make you want to go to the trouble of uploading something?

1. Add a lot of amusing content on your site.
2. Hire people to vote and comment on your site.
3. Start to share some of the funniest posts on Facebook, and I don't mean "share it with you old classmates and grandparents on your own personal account", but buy a ton of legitimate Facebook shares. Use Fiverr, hire freelancers, use Facebook ads....

Nice tips. Will do!

Social media is the key. You might have to buy some likes /twitter followers to have a good start. AMF is pretty much useless. Buy some likes/twitter from fiverr. Doesn't really matter whey they come from just check to be real. After about 50k likes, your website has the potential the get viral by itself. Anyway, that's pretty much what happened in my case.

How should i know if the likes are real? And also, can i take a look at your site? Maybe PM :)

I don't own the site anymore, I have sold it for some quick bucks when I was in need of money. Anyway it wasn't earning a lot and the host provider was getting pretty expensive. As for likes, just look for reviews but not all those "Great!" ones, but those who bring arguments too (good/bad review). If some fans are leaving, then it could be real because they are not interested in the content and they've been brought with likejackers. If many fans are leaving, those are addmefast accounts which are useless anyway.
