    Hi all,

I'm not really sure if this is in the right forum so please accept my apologies if its not.

I have an established website that purely targets the UK with a .co.uk extension

The site has been running since November 2009 with regular updates and has always performed well in Google. Over the past few months I have seen the sites rankings grow naturally until I could publish posts and hit the first page (often top 3) with no link building at all.

However over the past week or so this happened

Doh I cant post images yet, basically I went from 1000 people a day (dec 21st) from Google to 500 (24th Dec) for a few days, down to 100 (dec 31st) and has carried on like that since.

The vast majority of my rankings are gone, with just a few still sat at their original positions.

Each of the pages I build include-

    100% unique content
    Imagery
Embeded video which is part of the videositemap
    Links to relevant external sites
    Keyword density between 2%-4%
    LSI keywords included
Title tags are written like KEYWORD - Title, eg BLUE WIDGETS - What You Need To Know

I spent sometime going through webmastertools and spooted a couple of warnings but they have been warnings since I can ever remember

One is that i use the googlevideositemap plugin which creates 301 redirects for the sitemap.

I also have a plugin that creates new pages for comments but this flags up as duplicate title/meta info.

Other than that, webmastertools looks perfect but both of those have been in webmastertools for a while so I doubt they have made an impact.

I'm a bit lost by this, I thought my site had grown to become an authority in its niche with its first page publishing power.

I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to share some advice or perhaps share similar experiences throughout the december period.

Thank you kindly for your time.

It's only temporary IF you haven't been deindexed.

Really drives me nuts when google pulls this shit with sites. I would suggest building links to your internal pages. Grab a link list of all your internal pages and do a small SB blast or xrumer blast and try to get the links indexed. That will help bump you back up.

    Hi All,

Just thought I would update with what happened.

As predicted this was a temporary drop initially, someone advised me to expect things to return around the 10th jan which they did. Apparently this was due to some kind of CHristmas filter where Google gives branded sites extra authorirty during the shopping period.

Here is how it looks in webmaster tools & analytics - Ack I cant post a link to images yet, any way I can do this??

On the 13th January I put a new design/theme live in which-

    * I was extra careful to keep the site structure the same
    * Its much more lightweight with less graphics
    * I replaced the wordpress comments with Disqus
    * I added a facebook like box into the sidebar for each post
    * I switched to W3c total cache with Memcache on my server
    * I added more images to each post with Next Gen Gallery
    * I used the Google Page Speed tool to achieve a score of at least 90 across the site (gzip, minified, caching, combined css/js etc)

So im now a little confused as what to do.

Do I roll back to the old design or do I stick it out and hope for the best?

Any input on this would be greatly appreicated.

    Thanks

I recent suffer from this too. The site dropped then came back after few days and dropped again. It's almost 2 weeks now and there is no sign of a return.
