HUGE IDEA - Ranking Exact Match Domains with Interchangable/synonym Words

This is hard to explain, but has anyone ranked a site using a complementary exact match keyword.

Say if your ranking for attorneys but have lawyer in your domain name. Google recognizes this and if you do a search for attorneys, lawyers will be highlighted in search results. Can you rank for attorney in google even tho you have lawyer in your domain? I'm guessing it definitely would help, but by how much?

what you're trying to do is actually the way to rank those tough keywords without targeting them. looking for synonyms that have a lower competition is a good strategy but in the field you exemplified it won't do any help
