Huge expectation, sad ending

Couple weeks ago I found one-word keyword domain deleted and waiting for back order. So I created a backorder from a regular domain provider.

I was kinda shocked because I was casually checking expired domains and find this domain in the hella long list and at that point I thought I was the only one saw it. (Obviously I was not)

Couple weeks later I found out that I lost the backorder and some company doing domain auctions got it. (Apparently they are really good at doing backorders)
Devastating part…

The auction lasted around 4-5 days and the domain sold for $150,000.

Still haunts me.

Look at it this way - you were able to find a domain that was worth a shit ton of money.
So you missed this one but this just proves your skill and ability - keep looking for these and flip the next ones

The domain recapture game is most certainly NOT fair ...

If you want to play and win that game, then you will need to find out who really controls the re-registration process.

Another thing you could try ... is setup backorders using multiple companies.

Most of the time, if you don't win the process, you retain the credit for future attempts.

Having 20 companies, all competing to buy the domain you want, makes more sense.
 
One word dot com's are the most sought after and bought by groups of wealthy speculators or individuals. No loss really, it's super competitive so keep looking as rarely will these sorts of finds get past the hundreds of well healed people searching for them daily.

There is one company that has conquered most of the system of grabbing them, however one long standing registrar can also grab them first if they held the previous registration.
 
Actually that’s not a business for me, I was just looking for a domain for my new project and just came across to this gem. I am not surprised that I lost the backorder. As you guys said, there are many companies and individuals doing this professionally. So guys like me, don’t stand a chance.

Not just you, but most of us are not in the say top 1-10% in economic reality and can afford to bid $150k, or should. Look for a shorter, radio friendly, easy to spell decent 2 english word dot com instead. Or one word .net, noticing more and more .io or .ai as these seem to be popular. Or even .cc's (the reg fee was cheap and verisign manages just like dot com) also can be found except only a couple have I seen used for actual websites like > dict dot cc
 
it's hard to get domain like that. you can found it but getting it is another big problem
 
I don't know for .com but for other TDLs helped me a lot to use different backorder providers and reserve the same domain on all of them. Domain investors have a preferred line on this matter, so you just need to play their game.
 
:))Did you really thought you had a chance to backorder a 150k domain using a 3rd party backordering service?
