Huge drop on 'Links to your site' page...

In Google Webmaster Tools... I had 12,553 links on Jan 29th... and after checking today it was dropped to 3,928. Anybody know what's going on with this? Anyone notice a similar drop?

It's almost as if it's somehow related to my last post regaridng a penalty I think I received. http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/black-hat-seo/526979-went-down-google-page-ranking-dropped-rank.html as the keyword I had previously listed at the top of my 'How your data is linked' in GWT is now dropped to #42nd. Do you think that this penalty actually removed all value for the backlinks with that specific anchor?

Whoa whoa whoa.. I just checked mine.. I went from 5k links to 200? WHAT? I did not lose any rankings though.

I just checked and total number of links dropped from 15k to 27 links ??
Ranking doesnt change much.

I guess there are some mess inside Google now, dont trust this tool by now.
 
What kind of links were these ?
If these were spammy links built with sb/xrumer, I wouldn't be surprised some of them had been marked as "bs links" and ignored by google.
 
Might be spam links that got removed and so drop in your backlinks number..
 
Hi,

You need to get a bit more detailed with this, can you provide samples of links that Google are now longer including in that count. Are those URL's still live links that are indexed?
 
my links dropped also, by a ton! Wasn't spammy links either as I don't build (many) spammy links

no loss in rankings....YET

Few high PR home page backlinks of mine (not spammy) are not included. If G really ignored spam links, why am I still ranking higher than the official website of the products ? One of my url are sitting at #3 for keyword "product" while the product.com is at #5/
 
I just checked mine and there is a huge drop in numbers. I havent done any link buidling on this particualar site for over a year as I had had a warning in webmaster tools for unnatural activity. I had spammed links with SB to this site about 2 or 3 years ago so I am guessing they have all been wiped out. Im down to 400 links from 98,000. My indexed pages has also dropped hugely too.
 
The links didn't end up coming back... nor is the number really increasing. Anybody have any ideas on what to do next?

Oh, and I'm pretty sure that my drop in rank had something to do with this. I can't put my finger on what exactly caused it, but I know the drop in rank, PR, and now backlinks showing up in GWT happening within a span of about a month is just too fishy.
 
It's showing links to pages in my site but all links pointing to my domain have disappeared. Really weird :\
 
It's either a glitch, or Google is just cleaning up the types of links they report. If you haven't seen a drop in traffic, I wouldn't worry about it.

Same thing happened to me.
First I looked at my second money site and wtf links dropped heavily, the my other sites as well.
Google needs to fix things fast.
 
Same thing happend to me the thing is that the ranks are still there. Better use other tool to check your websites backlinks use GWT just for keyword research and see where you can get improvements.
 
Yet... another huge drop.

What the hell.
 
All the links returned today, plus more. Interesting turn of events.
