I have a site which had penalty a year ago and I did a reconsideration which worked. Now i tried to move it to ssl with a redirect from http to https and the site dropped from the serp as if the penalty returned to the https version of the website. It's almost exactly what happened to this guy here.
I reverted back to http, so now there's no redirect. I also added a sitemap to webmasters tool so that maybe google will forget about the https pages (it's still pending). but it seems as though google doesn't return the positions and keeps remembering the https pages (when doing site: I see both http and https pages) and almost all my positions went from 2-5 to 50 (if the http page is there then the position is the old one, if it's the https it's 50 or not seen in the results at all).
What should I do? should I:
1. wait and see if google forgets about the https pages and remembers to rank the http pages as there is no 443 port and it gets 404 not found for https pages currently (it's been a day and nothing changed yet). I'm afraid that the juice flowed to https and then it's not found and I'm screwed.
2. redirect the https to http and see if that helps. in this case I'm afraid I'll be moving the penalty from https to http and then I'm screwed.
Anything else? how can I tell google to simply revert back to http without having to redirect https back to http? need your help as this is my main source of income.
