HTTPS Website Mandatory from 1 October 2011 on Facebook - What to do?

Hello,

In order to build an app it will be mandatory from 1 October 2011 to use also a secure website HTTPS, what's needed to do? What's the cost to buy this kind of domain? Do I have to change also the hosting? Or just need to buy a domain with HTTPS. And what's the cost?

lol domain with https?

https or http is a protocol.... networking protocol.... not some type of TLD...

you need to do minor changes to your hosting.... ask your hosting guy... they will help you...

It's not a kind of domain, nor a different kind of hosting. You'll need an SSL certificate for each domain you possess, a good explanation of which you can find here: http://www.verisign.com/ssl/ssl-information-center/how-ssl-security-works/

Most hosting providers sell SSL certificates, I believe they're generally around the $20 mark (at least GoDaddy's is).

or I pay 20$ for the whole hosting and each domain I add on this hosting get the "HTTPS" ?

Do you noticed that you need need this for new apps on facebook from 1 october?

https requires ssl certificate for validation
however if FB isn't validating the website then you can use https without certificate as well

just change the protocol in your website url field

Yes I think I can avoid in this way, but if I want to add HTTPS I need to add a feature in the hosting and every domain in the hosting get this?
Or I have to add this feature for each domain?

usually you don't need to add any feature in hosting account
its already there
you just need to make some changes
and regarding domain
as i said
if FB doesn't validates the website then you can change the url
if FB is validating websites then you will have to buy a SSL certificate for every domain

not sure about shared SSL certificates
but as far as I know SSL certificates contain domain name
so if you try to use the same certificate on any other domain then it will give you an error

If you're using a c-Panel based hosting service this is usually as simple as point-and-click to set up. Also, c-Panel based hosting accounts will have video tutorials right inside the back-office system. That's not bad for less than $10. per month. DON'T OVERPAY FOR HTTPS, IT'S NOT NECESSARY!

If you get good amount from your users from your applications then i guess you should buy ssl cerificate for your domain.
Btw, every domain needs SSL, you can't have shared one.

You could also have a generic domain and set up several fan page applications on that domain. I have done this with multiple wordpress installations for fan page applications. That way you only need one SSL. Some hosts also require a dedicated IP so that is an additional cost.
