HTTPS Proxy - NooB to topic

hello, i never had any interest into this topic until now so pardon me for my noobishness

I have a few questions for you

1. are proxies 100% safe?
2. where can i find may free ones that work with paypal and https websites.
3. how can i check to see if the proxy does it's job

i've noticed that on samair.ru there are diffrent types of proxies
Planetlab/CoDeeN / high-anonymous proxy / transparent proxy etc.
What are the diffrences and who are the best??

1) 100% safe ?
No.
Almost all proxy types are not safe from inquiries by authorities, the so called "high anonymous" or "elite" proxies are safe in the way that the server you visit can not see your real IP.
You are also never safe from sniffing, and when using public ones you are not safe from a lot of other stuff that can happen

2) You can find free proxies in this board here, look for the proxy lists.
They are "free" as you can use them without paying, not legal to use.

If you want to test massive amounts of proxies through your windows pc, then use Charon. It's free and there is a tutorial about it on this forum.

When talking about "high anonymous" public (rogue) proxies it means they hide your IP well.
"Elite" means they also hide the HTTP headers which signal "I use a proxy"
A "transparent" proxy is either a proxy which shows your real IP through the headers or one that hijacks your connection at the tcp/ip transport layer (like a vpn as example)

Your question on paypal and EPN is harder:
You'll get caught if you use a public (free proxy)
You'll be able to sign up most likely if you use a paid and unshared (private) proxy, but you will get banned when you have a good amount of cash and try to get it.
EPNs ban, Paypal "limits". Both steal your commission/money

thx for cloackfish, i got the 1$ thing and it works...it was a slow slow sssllooowwww proxy but i guess there are better ones... anyway, great job

I've read things like that several times in these forums and it's really confusing:

Why would a paid and unshared private proxy get you banned on Paypal or EPN (whatever it is)? I thought that's what using private proxies was supposed to avoid.

- What's their use if you'd get banned using them?
- What are they hiding if they're not hiding your real ip thus making you appear as a unique or different user/client (thus not risking getting banned)?
- What do sites like Paypal and EPN see that gives away the fact that you're using a proxy when you're using a private proxy, thus causing them to ban you (what gives the fact away)?
- If Paypal, EPN, etc. can tell when you're using private proxies what's any different with any other websites being able to tell?

I have no interest nor need to use proxies for Paypal or any websites like that but I'm interested in private proxies and this just makes me wonder how anonymous they really are (or aren't) if sites can tell when you're using them in order to ban you.

Hi,
The anonymity of a private proxy is usually strong in technical and weak in social regards.
Technical a webserver can (if the proxy is correctly configured) not find out your real IP, an authority like police, fbi or a secret service can obtain the real IP through a number of possibilities.

Paypal and epn are both services where real money is moving into your hands, this means they have human verification of your identity.
When signing up you'r likely to succeed with any proxy that was not already abused and is banned. But when receiving money it is likely a human will look at you and it will happen for sure if you want to receive a larger amounts of $$.

In most cases a human will be able to tell you use a proxy with one short look at your hostname, I've even seen private proxies from BHW that had an INDIAN hostname.
Otherwise they have hostnames which make it obvious they are run on a datacenter and not on a home line.
Even if the hostname is not giving hints (which is rare) these sites can use services like a commercial geo-ip database which contains uplink details about subnetworks. So they see you are behind a datacenter.

It does not mean you have to get banned but it's likely.

Why they ban ? Well they can keep your money for themself

They ban a lot.
Why most websites can not see that?
a) they usually have no human verification and untrained eyes regarding this
b) most sites only use weaker techniques and don't care so much about the IP
Once money comes into the game a human verification is likely.

You cleared that up well for me. I've been wondering about what was meant by posts I've read regarding websites seeing past proxies. I know about flash cookies and I thought maybe this was a new technique websites were using to see past proxies (I check, clear/disallow them, set to 0, by the way).

I was aware of human verification for cases that involve money, from your very helpful and informative posts by the way!.
