Hi,

Having a few site indexing issues here:

Google indexed the http version of the post rather then the https.

Any ideas on how to add a canonical tag in wordpress to fix the issue

Yoast SEO plugin helps for the canonical links through advance tag, that way helped and worked very well for my post pages

Does anyone have experience with this issue?

I experience this issue for one of my client in the past.
In my knowledge if you find this issue then there is also discovery and indexing part below this which will tell you from where google found that page.
In my case there was a sitemap which is generating URL from which google is landing on that http page.
Below is the reference image

I removed that url from sitemap and again submitted.
You can first redirect http to https, check whole site in screaming frog if any http version of page is link in content or any other page as there are chances google find that page and index. Check sitemap too.

Hope it helps.

My sitemap is http into https within the subcategories.

You really should have your http redirect to the https version of your website - really unsure why you'd want to serve both of them.

Seems like no discovery part in your case which I mention earlier. In that case it is little bit difficult to understand where that URL found by google.

nothing that a ping query won't fix

Google indexed the http version of the post rather and quicker then the https.

Redirect http to https.

Rebuild sitemap.

If problem still exists, find out why sitemap is having http version of url.
