This is the key part. You cant simply have a wordpress blog with google new. You need an address, and a contact us. Not simply an email address either, background/bios of the authors and editors. If it doesn't look real, you won't get approved.

You picked up on two vital points that the OP had not addressed and your input is important as the application for GN has to be 100 per cent right or they will reject the application!
I have worked on 3 sites all that got GN acceptance so I do know exactly what is needed

I think BHW was a forum where sharing is caring but visibly it's not

Numbers are useful and probably required, because that's an easy way for Big G to understand when the article has been published. I also keep numbers in all my URL's, although I am not going for G News at this point, because I believe Google favors sites which put the date up there for easy indexing.

Yeah it looks like the numbers theory is very plausible(personally, I haven't seen in GNews any web site that didn't contain numbers -as explained). It's also a good thing to optimize your URL structure even if you use the number structure.

It's simple information which you may have missed while posting, nothing to worry about...
Lots of people got their website in Google News... Getting inside is tough but not impossible... Although maintaining your site inside it need little more work...
Most important factor for me so far is quality... It doesn't mean you can avoid other factors but quality is their primary concern... They can give you chance to improve on other factors but on quality it's quick hammer...
