You have My apologies for misunderstanding. Sometimes I get my back up when people disparage America, to much Texan pride I suppose. I served in the military, and we did good work didn't kill any babies at all, and overall, I served with some of the bravest, most honorable, and most selfless people I have ever met while doing it. The country's policies have nothing to do with why all these young people offer up and surrender their lives, as too many do for reasons I may not necessarily agree with.

Politicians decide policy, soldiers implement it.

Doesn't excuse my behavior though, and my apology is sincere.

@sldebo

You might want to search on wikipedia for a detailed history/timeline of the net.

However, one thing I can tell you for sure, soldiers didnt built the internet, they also are not securing the internet and wars dont make the net more stable (lol).
I know that it was in the early phase a military project meant to provide a safe and most importantly independent communication network in case of a military strike.
Even tho it was sponsored by the military didnt mean that soldiers/militairs developed it. We can thank people from early network technology companys and universities like the MIT for that. As soon as it got dropped by the military the net became a tool for universities and scientistic communication and soon after that reached the public.

With kind regards,

I remember working on packet switched networking and DOS 3.1 in 1974-77 at Randolph Air Force Base, while working with Burroughs and Sperry Univac engineers, as an enlisted man, learning to push data between the AF Personnel center and Cheyene Mountian for NORAD over telephone wires at a 1200 baud rate, so I will have to differ with your version of the facts. That is 1200 bits a second, not kilobits, BTW.

And our men and women in uniform secure our way of life, which includes access to the internet, among the other things we Americans enjoy. If it offends you that we thank them, with all due respect sir, that is your problem. I will not apologize for being proud of the men and women who defend my way of life and the prosperity it allows.

---> Sldebo, I have got to get 15 post somehow lol !! I just tried to send you a message but alas I do not have 15 posts. Btw.. LOVE LOVE LOVE the Hill Country!! :-D

Kerrville is like Heaven, dipped in green...its just too small...

This! They are not given the right to turn down or disobey an order... So lets not blame the soldiers for whatever may be going on in some countries (including mine). Its the politicians that make policies and most of the time they do it wrong.

Anyway lets stop discussing politics and wish Tigress all the luck for her future ventures ;)

Thanks alot sldebo.
And I 100% agree on:

"Politicians decide policy, soldiers implement it."

Also big respect for serving in the military.
I have respect for everyone risking their lifes like that.

"I dont really care about the whole picture, I however care about the individuals who make the picture possible." (thats how I like to put it.)
