How Youtube sidebar related video work?

Hi everyone,

Have you guys know how youtube sidebar videos work? Both "Related videos" and "Recommend for you videos". How to make your videos appear in that sidebar? I knew it about the relation with the videos you watching, but with tons of videos same like it, how your video compete with those?

I use 2 specific tags in every video. Works pretty good all related videos are mine

Just put 2 unique tags in the tag bar in the end. I always put my website and my channel name in the tag bar. That's it. YouTube recommends related videos that have similar tags. No secret.
 
generally the sidebar shows the videos uploaded my the same channel + the videos which are highly related to the current video you are watching!

well that's related to your videos. But how to get into other's videos related bar?

You need 100's of thousand of views to appear in other peoples related side bar. But if you can figure this out you've won the youtube game you'll have so much traffic if it appears on a popular channels video. Thats why it helps to have good thumbnails also.
 
This would be nice to know, Im getting monthly about 700,000 views from the related videos sidebar. If I knew how it worked, I could maybe get millions with it.

Here's the things that I have noticed about the related videos thing from my videos:
- The view retention doesnt have to be that high. I have only about 30%
- More views = better

That's all I know..
