How Youtube Frontpage Videos Are Calculated???

Hello BH members!

I am wondering how youtube picks the frontpage videos. I mean, sometimes i see videos with millions of views in the catogory "Trending" and next to that i often see videos with views less than 10.000! How does this makes sense? What factors are REALLY, REALLY important for this?

Also, do social signals (facebook shares, twitter re-tweets) play a big role in the Youtube front page picks?

Social signals play a decent role. And so do retention views. Google it.

The calculation is based in an algorithm, just like any other form of search engine.

The algorithm is not public hence there is not an exact formula known (at least by me).

Video signals play one of the most important roles, such as likes, subscribers, favorites and so on.

Links to the video might play an important role, however, I cannot 100% verify this. I strongly believe they do, however, not entirely positive about it.
