How would I?

Following the recent hack here I noted a comment that hackers use scripts to search out vulnerable websites. Presumably they enter a set of parameters into thier robot which goes out and finds sites meeting the criteria.

So if I wanted to search for websites that have installed a script, for example peel away ads installed as per the instructions so that the location on the website is known beforehand and I wanted to do this using a script / robot to look for those sites how would I go about it?

I have no idea where to start looking for such a script or even what it would be called, any ideas would be most welcome.
