How would Google know...?

I researched this topic before and was under impression that as long as you are not building links on Blogspot Google cannot know the IP of a person who built the link. Today I read this on Alex Becker (from 2012):

I guarantee you at least 90% of SEOs do not use proxies or even know how to use them. What proxies do is change the IP your links are built from , thus covering your tracks and stopping Google from banning you. In short, anytime you use a link building tool, make sure you have proxies loaded up (every tool has a place for these). For example on Source Autopilot we filter our link building through over 200 different proxies.

On top of this, if you buy links make sure the service uses proxies as well. Private proxies are not cheap, so a lot of service ?forget? to use them.
I personally get all my proxies from Squid Proxies.

This doesn't make sense to me. What am I missing? He clearly says you need proxies to cover tracks from Google, but how would they know anyway??

They could track them, providing they had access to every website in the world

Luckily for us, they don't.

Use proxies when it comes to their network.

Funny thing this is from a so-called SEO Guide (Omega Guide) and Alex Becker is making money from SEO (and from "teaching" SEO) too.

It just shows you how amateurish this industry is...

Yeah! He acknowledged mistake in comments but didn't correct it and it kind of sticks out like a sore thumb.

But I find him inspiring with his Ferrari and Lamborghini. Nice for 20 something guy...

Google cannot figure out what IP you used to build your backlinks, the only time it matters to use proxies is when you re-use the same platform to build links multiples of times.

People use proxies because sites/google may ban you for scraping/posting, not because google can track ip's. Just make sure the websites aren't hosted on the same ip.

Becker really is smart at what hes doing, contrary to fact that he acts like he isn't. While hes probably not all that great at SEO from a natural skill point (since he hires personal coaches, etc).

He's making millions off marketing himself as a brand. Which is more important than being great at seo.

How would Google know...?
