How useful are nofollow links?

So I've stumbled upon a method to register Twitter accounts that have expired or their previous owner changed @ name.

After reading Leith's guide I was gassed out about Twitter and definitely wanted to start scraping ASAP. Now I have around 5 Twitters all above 20 TF and some with 50+ RD.

So: how useful are these? All outgoing links on Twitter are indeed nofollow (if you're logged in they are followed, weird enough).

What positive qualities do nofollow links have if they don't pass link juice? Is it worth continuing to register 100 Twitter accounts which was my original goal to rank my authority site, or should I stop and focus my efforts on PBN domains and follow-only properties?

    Cheers.

They are very useful. Although they don't pass link juice, they have been shown to improve rankings indirectly.

If you get a no follow link on a real site, you will get traffic from that link as well. In addition, nofollow links add to diversity which is always good.

As long as they are relevant to your niche they can be beneficial for you. They won't pass link juice but can still help with your anchor text ratio and it's good to have a mix of follow/nofollow links so that your backlink profile looks more natural.

Take a sample of Wikipedia link, it's nofollow link, but on the other hand you'll get a huge traffic and authority boost to your site. It also helps to make your link profile looks natural in Google's eyes.

I think Google has no difference between follow and nofollow links it all depends on the source of the link

No follow will only help you increase your web traffic and makes your website look natural but don't overdo it.

What I don't like about that article and many guru Bullshits is that they never give any proof. That article, seems trustworthy enough but they didn't say anything about their do follow links. They could have been from CNN BBC FOX HuffPo etc... So what is a case study where a significant part isn't included ?

There is still no solid evidence to prove that NoFollow (or in this case Twitter in general) provides any sort of value .. I'm not convinced yet,

However I'm willing to try it out of blind faith like @Leith did on his case study, but I'll definitely have to see results for myself for that to happen.

    1. Twitter accounts and tumblr accounts as nofollow will increase google postion but they dont get the traffic for the website twitter and tumblr is pushing behind the website to gain heigh postion then the website it self gains natural traffic.

Backlinking there was a case study where the links should both be back linked do-follow and nofollow .

So both and same amount helped in ranking.

For a while Google's policy has been that "in general" they don't utilize nofollowed links: don't crawl them, don't pass authority, and don't pass anchor text.

I think Google has played around with this a little bit, sometimes 'following' them in certain contexts, sometimes not. At the moment I think Google is applying nofollow pretty strictly, which is why they recently warned webmasters to use nofollow for free review products: https://webmasters.googleblog.com/2016/03/best-practices-for-bloggers-reviewing.html

I suspects links via Twitter are useful and are a signal if Google thinks the underlying account is trustworthy. As in, a link from an account with a massive genuine following might help (despite the nofollow) but in general it doesn't.

You can put those Twitter accounts to a variety of uses, but as a matter of link-building for organic authority, I doubt it's worth the time.

As other posters have said. Nofollow are good for referal traffic if they are placed on high traffic sites i.e. not spam sites. They are also good for diversifying your backlink profile to make it appear more natural.

You're going to hate me for this answer, but: if you imagined a world in which there were no search engines, how would you use these accounts to promote your business?

A lot of this depends on what your business really is, so it's hard to get specifics. And the answer is often (1) something that requires a ton of work, just like real marketing does or (2) a quickie monetization based on someone else seeing a lot of value in them, even if you don't.

My site is an Amazon review site so Twitter traffic may as well be useless.

Perhaps, but not necessarily. Where's your money made? Traffic numbers to get advertisers? Impressions on ads? People clicking through affiliate links to buy?

Bricks-and-mortar sites buy Twitter ads all the time. Same concept. Get creative with it. Maybe these accounts buy some Twitter ads that get into more feeds, and the ads themselves are more effective because it's a genuine account with followers.

I'm not saying this a perfect solution. Odds are good that, if your business is all about ranking in SERPs to get organic traffic, then your time is best spent on traditional followed link-building. But there could still be some meat on this bone, since Twitter is itself a source of organic traffic.

Or maybe these accounts get connected with your site, so people considering buying via your site see them and like them. Maybe make them authors of your posts, so it looks like a whole group of people.

Or maybe you just sell tweets/retweets on the marketplace here.
