how unique should your content be?

Actually anything over 70% is fine really. But over 80% is even better for link building. I actually bought 2 services here on bhw that was BAD and had unique content with only 20%-50%,but my website is ranked #2 and its earning over 100$ per day. I did use unique articles for other things of course,but it is just that not all articles have to be unique. But the more unique you have the better it is.

What do you mean by 'unique content'?? Are you talking about plagiarism free content ?? In the both conditions uniqueness has great significant. I'll also recommend high quality as well.
