I apologize if this is a dumb question and I am just missing something obvious, but I seem to be stuck in a chicken vs. egg type of scenario here.
I want to figure out a niche to work within. I need to do research to make sure there are keywords that I can try to rank with, and sufficient traffic going to those keywords. So logically the first step should be, find the product (or set of related products within the niche,) then do research and make an informed decision about whether I think there is room for me to crack into that niche/market.
There is ZERO POINT in me spending time and money to set up a whole website based in some niche and then praying that I can find good related products later and work them into my content, that's ass-backwards.
However, when I am looking into affiliate programs, it seems like you cannot just browse through their stuff without an account. I just checked shareasale, and everywhere I go on their site to try to view the actual shit that they would have you promote as an affiliate, just leads me to a page trying to force me to sign up. Then I tried clickbank, and it's similar - they let you view a handful of categories and products/services, but I am fairly certain they are only showing me a tiny percent of the items they actually offer. I checked CJ Affiliate, SAME DEAL. I could list more here, but I think the point is clear.
Now if it was just a case of signing up for an account like providing an email address, password, and some minor details I wouldn't care - but they seem to want crazy detailed info and I am under the impression (from my research including reading other threads on here) that many of them are going to ask to see the website or other channels (social media accts etc) where you intend to promote their products, before they approve your account.
This is where I come to the chicken and egg situation... I could look at their products, conduct research, build my site, and then apply for an account - but they won't let me see the products until I have a site.
