I publish 3 articles of 2100 words each week on my wordpress blog. I use seo yoast for "SEO Title" "Meta Description" and "Metakeywords", but I never use "Tags"

Is it important? Will tags benefit my SEO? Is there a plugin? How many tags per article?

tags were pretty powerful before few years, but i really don't know how much important are they today.. i use them all the time, so i can't really judge how's without them..

maybe someone that did some tests recently could share some advice in here

A tag is just an internal link at the end of the day. No harm in using them, it will help distribute the PR nicely through your blog I guess.

Tags can help by giving you another way to use a keyword variation that may not fit easily within the content of the page/post. But I don't consider them a huge help and don't use them on most of my sites. But if I had to choose between tags and meta keywords I'd go with tagging. Metakeywords doesn't add anything to your ranking efforts. In fact, all it does is send up a flag to your competitors telling them what keywords you are targeting.

tags are really helpful. You can use some relevant long tail tags to get benefits of traffic. sometimes tags will outrank your main page. At that time, you need to 301 the tag page to your main article page to get same ranking.

If you use them and index them, be careful not to have tag pages that are too similar, would be duplicate content

Tags help with your site structure and onPage SEO. they are super easy to implement in Wordpress, and you should absolutely be using them. Not just random tags, but come up with a list of 50 or so that relate to your site, that you are looking to rank, and use these tags on the appropriate posts. Your rankings will thank you.

I've been using tags just for the ease of navigation and if the visitors want to search for a particular thing,it helps that too I guess.
